Autumn took a deep breath before telling them about her visit to the Celestial Realm and her dip in the magical pool. They listened in stunned silence, and when she was done, she concluded by saying, “So, now I’m the Goddess of Revenge, and I somehow wished payback on the bastard who had hurt Paul. Don’t worry, though. I didn’t take that arm from anyone. I just…made his grow back.”

“I wouldn’t care if you did give him someone else’s arm,” Huxley declared fiercely, and his brothers all nodded in agreement. “Let me remind you that you’re sitting at a table of shifters. We don’t mind ripping off an arm or a leg when the situation calls for it.”

Devlin smiled fondly. “While I’m not a shifter, I can safely say I’ve mutilated my share of enemies.”

“Not me,” Aidan denied quickly. “Maybe it’s my training as a surgeon, but I like to avoid causing permanent injuries.”

“Didn’t you help kill those shifters who attacked the pack last year?” Autumn asked.

Murphy nodded enthusiastically. “He did, but they wanted to steal our pack’s land, so they deserved it.”

“Death is a pretty damn permanent injury, though,” Huxley said dryly, making the twins snicker.

Aidan stubbornly lifted his chin. “Rogues don’t count.”

Declan leaned over to whisper to his twin. “We should definitely add dismemberment to our to-do list.”

“Got it,” Murphy whispered back.

“By the gods, all of you are crazy,” Jordan muttered with a delicate shudder.

“I’m quite pleased by this outcome,” Devlin announced. “That bastard has eluded me for decades, but now, the god who attacked me and injured Paul shouldn’t be too hard to find.”

“You’re going to hunt down the one-armed man?” Huxley asked.

“Be sure to check every outhouse and doghouse in the area,” Autumn snarked before she could stop herself. “Oh, god. That was inappropriate as fuck, wasn’t it?”

Huxley let out a sharp bark of laughter. “But damn funny.”

Devlin frowned. “I don’t understand.”

“It’s from a movie we watched together.” Jordan shook her head in disbelief. “I can’t believe you are making jokes under the circumstances.”

“It’s either that or bawl my eyes out at this point.”

Jordan patted Autumn’s hand. “Then, make all the jokes you want, sweetie. Despite the gory details, what you did for Paul was nothing short of a miracle.”

“I’m just glad he’s okay. Or at least, he will be. But I still need to figure out how to control these new powers before I end up hurting someone.”

“So, that god didn’t tell you anything else?” Huxley asked. “He just sent you home to deal with all of this by yourself? What a dick.”

Devlin chuckled. “I’m not surprised he wasn’t very helpful. As the original God of Fate, Keo got used to half-assing his duties while he was pretending to be insane.”

“Crazy or not, he is still one of the only high gods worth trusting,” Miya Tsai said after she suddenly appeared in the room.

A dark angel who had once served as one of Lucifer’s mighty generals in the Celestial Army, Miya now acted as a magical bounty hunter of sorts. Since she had a special ability to track evil, she was often called in to consult on cases throughout the six realms, but she had made it very clear that she would never return to the Celestial Realm.

Not after she and her brethren had been betrayed by some of the high gods.

Besides being a total badass, Miya was a freaking pro at holding a grudge.

Several years ago, she had singlehandedly annihilated a pack of rogue shifters that had been attacking humans and other shifters around Mystic. The Supernatural Council had been searching for the perpetrators for weeks with no luck, so they had reached out to Miya for help.

Finding them had been difficult due to the powerful witch who had been helping the rogues by using a variety of protection spells to hide them, but Miya had finally tracked them down when they’d been attacking a den close by the Bazin pack. Once she’d found them, there had been more rogues than she had expected, but that hadn’t stopped her from taking them down. She had saved most of the den, at great cost to herself.

After Huxley and Aidan had found her passed out when they’d been out for a run, the brothers had brought Miya to Rachel for healing. Her wounds had been extensive, so she’d had to stay at the farm for several days to rest and recover before she could get back on her feet. Because of that, she had been determined to repay the debt she’d claimed to owe the Bazin family.

Since they hadn’t wanted anything in exchange for their help, Miya kept returning to the farm in order to figure out how she could compensate them. To her eternal frustration, she’d never been able to wipe that slate clean. After a while, the reason for her visits had changed, and she simply continued to come back because she now considered them friends.
