It was so freaking absurd that it made her want to laugh.

“What—and I seriously mean this—the fuck is going on?”Kingston asked through their bond, sounding as bewildered as she felt.

“I have no idea.”She cleared her throat before speaking out loud. “Devlin, nice to see you again.”

“Oh, so he gets a proper greeting and I don’t? I see how it is,” Keo grumbled, biting into another cookie.

“I’ve been helping her learn how to use her god powers, which is something I believe you were supposed to do,” Devlin said dryly.

“I’m just the temporary guardian of the Godhood Trials,” Keo said flippantly.

“You’ve been saying that for centuries. Temporary stops being temporary after a while. You need to accept that it’s yours to deal with until the rightful god is either born or made to take it over,” Devlin rebuked.

“You damn reaper,” Keo said with a snort of laughter. “Only you can get away with scolding me without making me want to tear your spine out to beat you with it.”

“Lucky me.” Devlin turned to address Autumn and Kingston. “Why are you two just standing over there? Come over here and join us. I have some questions for the both of you.”

Autumn hesitated briefly before grabbing Kingston’s hand and dragging him over to the table. She sat down next to Devlin, but instead of taking the seat next to Keo, Kingston pulled another chair out from a neighboring table and spun it around so he could lean his forearm on the top of the backrest. Autumn was sure it had been a deliberate choice to position himself at the head of the table, and she had to bite her lip to hold back a smile when he used magic to pull her chair closer to him.

“I received your message earlier asking about dark zones. I was intrigued enough to stop by and see why you were asking,” Devlin said before he broke a piece of cookie off and ate it delicately.

“We stopped by the administration building next to Station Five earlier, and I couldn’t sense anything. And I don’t mean just with my revenge powers, either,” Autumn said. “We couldn’t sense any magic in the building at all, and I know for a fact there are dozens of supernaturals and hybrids working there. We couldn’t tell if it was some sort of powerful spell that might be causing the dark zone, so I thought it was best to ask you.”

That made both Devlin and Keo stiffen in alarm.

“Explain everything,” Devlin demanded. “Why were you searching the building, and when did you notice something wasn’t right?”

Kingston took over, explaining the arson case and the male who had supposedly shown up looking for his missing mate. As he spoke, he took Autumn’s hand and placed it on his thigh, holding it there as he rubbed his thumb over her skin.

Devlin stroked his chin like some evil mastermind. “This is quite interesting. I think I’ll have to go check it out.”

Keo nodded. “I think I’ll join you. I’ve never encountered a magical dead zone without some sort of trace or signature.”

“Before you leave, can you please tell us what we should do about our celestial problem? Is the emperor going to send someone to arrest me or something?” Autumn rushed to ask.

Keo had started to stand, but he settled back in his chair. “He might try, but if you resolve your mate’s issue before that happens, they will have no excuse to drag you to the Celestial Realm. You’re right when you said that they have no authority over you since you live here, but you are still both gods, which means you have to be careful.”

“You might have to go stay in the Hell Realm for a while to stay out of their hands,” Devlin said.

“That’s not a bad idea. At least, until you figure out how to clear your name.” Keo paused, then said, “Or we could just go to war and overthrow the emperor and his minions.”

The casual way he said that was jarring since Autumn wasn’t sure if he was joking or not. Added to that, Devlin seemed to be considering the idea. It was crazy, but if it turned out to be the only way she could protect her mate, then she was all in. She might have been timid in the past, but Autumn was now fiercely protective of her mate. There wasn’t anything she wouldn’t do for him, and that included taking down all of his enemies…no matter who they were.

“While that would be fun, I’m not sure I would want to deal with the outcome. Neither would you.” Devlin lifted a brow mockingly. “Are you prepared to rule the Celestial Realm when we succeed?”

Keo recoiled comically. “Hell no! Why the fuck would I want to do that? We would obviously have to choose some other loser to take on that role.”

“Let’s hold off on war and deal with this issue for now,” Devlin suggested. “Besides going to the Hell Realm, you could also file a protest with the Supernatural Council to stop the Celestial Realm from interfering in your lives. However, that will only work once you prove Kingston is innocent.”

“Any ideas how to do that? I mean, I know he’s innocent. I’ve seen it in a revenge vision, but they won’t listen to me, will they?” Autumn asked, frustrated.

“Too bad we don’t have the Mirror of Truth,” Keo commented. “That would definitely come in handy if you wanted to reveal what you saw to the council.”

“What is the Mirror of Truth?” Autumn asked. “I’ve never heard of it.”

“It’s a magical artifact that can show a memory of the person holding it. And since there is no magical means to alter a vision from the mirror, whatever is shown is the truth. If we had the mirror, anyone watching your revenge vision would have to believe you. Too bad that it was one of the artifacts that was stolen.”

Autumn shared a look with Kingston. It was either a huge coincidence or some amazing foresight that the one object that could prove he was innocent was missing.
