Page 66 of Don't Make Promises

Our gazes clash, and time stands still. The music that was a dull thump is suddenly silenced and it’s as if we’re the only two people in the world. My chest heaves with every breath I take. I’m certain my panties are ruined.

“Noah,” I plead because he’s stopped and I don’t want him to.

He lifts a hand, smoothing away a strand of my hair and tucking it behind my ear. “Angel, I’m going to take you home and then you’re going to do what you said you would do to someone else when you were mad at me.”

Oh.

My eyes widen as Noah sets me down and I remember my words from earlier.

He doesn’t want this to stop?

Noah chuckles, “No, I don’t want to stop.”

I smooth down my dress before lifting my chin. Injecting as much nonchalance into my tone as I can, I reply, “Oh, I said that out loud?”

He pulls on my hand, and I fall into him. His arm bands around my waist and he looks down at me. “Yeah, you did, angel.”

Neither of us looks away, the heat building between us until a car horn blares, breaking through the night air.

Licking his lips, Noah drops his gaze to my mouth before he grunts, “Let’s get you home.” I watch the flame of desire spread through his eyes as he continues, “I’m hungry.”

I think I might die.

THIRTY-ONE

Noah

Idrag Savannah to the entrance of the alleyway, a desperation to get her home and do things with her I never imagined possible fuels me.

The sound of her heels clicking on the cement at a hurried pace trails behind me. With that one kiss, I’m drunk on her. The all consuming need to have her spurs me on, blocking out any rational thoughts I might have.

There’s a giggle in her voice when she breathlessly calls, “Noah, I’ll break an ankle if you don’t slow down.”

I don’t want to slow down. Ever since she wrapped her legs around my waist and I felt the heat between her thighs, I’ve been in a heady rush to claim her. But I don’t want her to get hurt, either. Protecting Savannah has always been my goal.

Stopping in my tracks, I turn to face her. The movement is so sudden that she doesn’t have a chance to stop and the forward momentum has her stumbling into my chest.

She lands against me with an adorable squeak, looking up at me with a startled gaze. Her eyelashes flutter as a cloud of worry darkens her beautiful eyes. “Have you changed your mind?”

My fingers brush into the soft strands of her hair as I tip her face further back. “Not afuckingchance, angel.”

I watch as the tension releases in her body and a calm washes over her. Her voice is thick with arousal as she asks, “Then why did you stop?”

Without a word, I bend down and place a hand behind her knees, the other supporting her shoulders as I swoop her up. A startled gasp leaves her lips, and she wraps her arms around my shoulders, looking down at my now moving feet. The space between us and the car closes with my urgent strides.

Her voice trembles slightly. “Noah, I’m going to need you to talk to me. I need to know where your head is.”

Fuck, she wants to know where my head is?

It’s fucking gone.

I want nothing more than to be buried so deep inside her that we become one. And I’m terrified that I’ll never be able to get enough of her.

It’s why I always stayed away.

Not just because of the promise I made to Jack, but because she would be it for me. She’s fucking beautiful, both in and out. Every time I was alone with her as she grew up, I was drawn to her, I just didn’t know what it meant. I still am, and when she leaves, my thoughts are still consumed by her.

Christ, if I tell her all of that, she’ll no doubt run from me.
