Page 84 of Don't Make Promises

“Will, not included. But my point is, you know you haven’t actually taken me on a date, right?

Noah’s eyes widen and his brows lift, reaching for his hairline. He looks away from me, and I watch as he tries to find a date when we’ve gone out. “That can’t be right.”

Crossing my legs, I pick up my glass, taking a sip before I reply, “It is right. We’ve had lots of sex and eaten in together a whole bunch but we haven’t stepped foot outside of this apartment to go on a date.”

Clearing his throat, he sits up in his seat. “Okay. Well that’s gonna change.” Almost sheepishly, Noah asks, “I don’t know if maybe you want to come to the holiday party at Parker and Anderson next Friday? As my date.”

I can’t help the smirk that pulls at my lips, because despite my cool facade, NoahfreakingParker just asked me on a date. Heck, he called me hisgirlfriend. “I would love that.”

“Great. That’s settled.” He fights against his grin before it breaks free. Lifting out of his chair, he leans across the table and captures my lips with his. When he pulls away slightly, he whispers, “It’s fucking fantastic, angel.”

Playfully rolling my eyes, I push at his shoulder, unable to keep the smile from my face. I feel like a teenager. I’m giddy all over again but for a whole other reason.

Taking his seat, Noah stares at me, his gaze going serious as he says, “If I asked you to do something for me, no questions asked, would you?”

I’d do almost anything for him so my answer is almost immediate. “Of course.”

“Do you promise?”

Where is he going with this?

My mind immediately goes to something sexual before I check myself. He’d be playful about that. Not cryptic like he’s being now. This is something serious.

I nod at the same time as I say, “If it’s something illegal though, I reserve the right to politely decline.”

Noah chuckles. “It’s not illegal.”

Holding out his pinky finger, I huff out a laugh before linking mine with his. His eyes light up, and a flutter twitches in my stomach. I have a feeling I shouldn't have agreed to this. He tugs our joined fingers toward his lips, kissing my finger before urging me to do the same.

As soon as my lips leave his finger, he says, “Now that we’ve agreed. What I’m asking you to do, which you can’t say no to, is quit all the jobs that don’t involve you doing your passion and take the part.”

My eyes go wide at his demand. He’s one fry short of a Happy Meal if he thinks I’d do that. That’s the only rational explanation for his demand.

Laughter bubbles up and spills from my lips. “Right. And then I’ll truly be a starved artist. A homeless one, to boot.”

“We’ve already solved your housing situation. You’re my girlfriend and we live together.” He shrugs like it’s not a big deal.

“Noah, I can’t just live here,” I plead, begging for him to understand. “And anyway I have bills to pay.”

“You already live here—”

“Temporarily,” I correct, cutting him off.

Turning his seat to face me, he moves his hand between my legs and grips my chair, tugging me around the table toward him. I don’t try to stop him. Even if I wanted to, I couldn’t. My eyes are glued to the veins popping on his forearm as it rests between my legs.

“I don’t think I’ve been clear enough. You.” He points toward me. “Are my.” He points to himself. “Girlfriend. This is our home and there’s no point in you moving out to only move back in a couple of months.

“I’ll cover any bills you have because I want you to fulfill your dreams, angel. And being realistic about it, that’s not going to happen anytime soon if you’re burying yourself in work that has nothing to do with what you want to accomplish. I’m giving you the chance to do it, and I don’t want anything in return.”

“I ca—”

He cuts me off with a kiss. It starts out testing, before growing deeper and more urgent. Our mouths are still connected when I stand, placing my hands on his shoulders as I straddle his lap. We nip, suck, and lick at each others mouths.

Noah grabs handfuls of my ass cheeks as I roll my hips into his hardness, my need for him clear. Sparks build between us and I know that just like every time we come together it will be a colorful explosion of light andlove.

Pulling away, Noah carries me to the living room where he unceremoniously dumps me on the couch. A squeal leaves my lips and I tip my head to the side as I look up at him.

“Hey,” I sulk.
