“Where is Hugh?” Corbin asks. “He’s next.”

“I’ll send one of my soldiers for him,” Callum says, pulling out his phone to text Sean, no doubt. “Scotty.” He dips his chin toward Usten. He wants me to end this bastard’s life.

And I will. Gladly.

I kick the legs of the chair, sending Usten flying backward. His head hits the cement floor, rendering him unconscious.

“We’ll take care of Vlad,” Jericho says. I reach inside the barrel of water and pull the pitcher out. Then, I grab the rag from earlier and drop to my knees.

“We take care of him together,” Callum says.

“My sister will stay and help however she can,” Jericho says.

“No,” Corbin says, with urgency in his voice. “You’ll handle it and let your sister go back to her business.”

“Oh, calm down, pretty boy.” Yuliya chuckles, grabbing a blade from the torture table. She throws it across the room, where it lands with precision, right in the middle of a wooden pillar. “I can handle myself.”

Usten’s eyes go wide, and he stirs while the group behind me continues to bicker.

“Oh, good, you’re awake,” I say, covering his face with the rag.

He squirms, trying to get away, but I pin his face down while Corbin presses his foot to his chest. And then, I pour the water over him until he’s no longer breathing.

Chapter Fourteen

Myfingerstapagainstthe center island of Sean’s kitchen. He’s got his head buried in the fridge, trying to find something for me to eat, even after I told him I’m not hungry. Scotty is leaning against the doorframe of the office.

I glare at Scotty, wanting to punch that smug smirk off his face. He knows exactly why I’m here, and he knows exactly how this conversation is going to go. He crosses his arms over his chest, and it makes him look even more smug, the evil bastard.

I caught him again last night in my room. Two nights in a row. Tonight, I’m sleeping with a switchblade under my pillow, and if he does it again for a third time, I’ll stab him.

“Sean, I said I’m not hungry. Besides, you probably don’t have anything I can eat anyway,” I say, wanting to get to the point of this conversation already.

Sean pulls his head out of the fridge, and looks past me toward Scotty. “Has she eaten?”

“She’s due for dinner,” Scotty says, his eyes on me. The smirk is gone, but it still twinkles in his eyes.

Sean hums, as if contemplating something. “I’ll order something.”

My mouth drops. The audacity of the men in this family has my chest inflating with anger. “No. I’m not staying.”

“No?” Sean cocks his head to the side. He folds his arms over his chest. “What’s this visit for if it’s not to spend time with your brother?”

My foot taps against the wood of his kitchen floor. “You know what I’m here about.”

He draws a brow and crosses his arms. He’s only two years older than me, but he acts as though he’s decades older—my father instead of my brother. They all act like I’m a porcelain doll, as though I can’t manage to protect myself enough to ward off an attacker.

As if I didn’t do it a few nights ago.

Scotty spent five years teaching me self defense. I may not be in the gym for hours a day, or have a ton of muscle, but I know the basics, and I’m strong enough to fight back. You’d never know it with the way I’m treated. Like a priceless vase ready to shatter if rattled and dropped.

I huff, turning my gaze to Scotty. “I don’t want him on my detail. Give me someone else.”

Sean snorts. “You go through guards like you go through your underwear, Saoirse. Scotty is the only one you haven’t managed to shake. And in case you haven’t noticed, we’re about to go to war with the Russians who are trying to kidnap you. So Scotty stays. Suck it up.”

“Give me Finn,” I say, not willing to give up on the fight.

“Haley has Finn,” Sean says, resting his hands on the countertop.
