“And Scotty, too. No more bodyguard stuff, no more security for Sean or foot soldier shit. He’s out of this, too.”

Callum meets my gaze, a glint in his eye. “Saoirse, he was out of this the second you claimed him as yours.”

Callum and Corbin head for the dining room. Saoirse stands to join, but I hold her in place with my hand to her thigh. When they’re out of view, I turn to her. “You did all of this, so that I wouldn’t be a Southie anymore?”

She grins, her bright smile sending a pang to my chest. “I did it so that our children wouldn’t be.” Her soft lips press against my nose delicately. Then she pulls back, that bite of anger back. She’s ready to engage in an act of war. I can almost taste the rage stirring inside of her, swirling like a tornado.

Her bright eyes darken. My cock twitches. “Though, it’s fucking pointless now. Considering I’m never getting naked in front of you again. And sex is needed to have children.”

I chuckle. “Sure, baby. You say that now.” I slide my hand further up her thigh. “But your pussy belongs to me. Weeps for me. Opens for me.” My teeth sink into her shoulder. “How’s your ass feel?”

“It feels wonderful,” she says. “Considering I took that toy out. It’s waiting for you when we get home. I’m going to shove it so far up your ass, it’ll come out of your mouth.” She stands, glaring at me. “Let’s get this dinner over with, so I can see how pathetic you are with that wounded look on your face as the elevator door shuts in your face, and I wave goodbye to you.”

My smile falters and I shoot up, a growl rumbling through me. “Don’t lie to me, princess.”

She laughs, her head shaking as she heads for the dining room.

I catch up to her, my hand swatting at her ass. “Don’t hurt my feelings like that, baby.”

She scoffs. “Or what? You’ll punish me?”

She halts, and I practically run over her. I let out a harrumph, wrapping my arms around her waist so she doesn’t topple over. Once we’re settled, she glares at me. “I’ve got news for you, your little punishment game is over. You’re the one about to get the edging. You better watch out.”

My eyebrows raise, amusement fluttering through me. “Yeah? You gonna turn your bad boy into a good boy?”

Her hand reaches up, gripping my chin. “Oh, sweetie. Stop fooling yourself. You’ve never been good a day in your life.” She applies pressure, enough to cause discomfort but not enough to make me wince.

“You’re not wrong.” I hold her attention, keeping her eyes on me. “I’m sorry I’ve upset you.”

She drops my chin, then turns around, ignoring me. We settle into our seats next to each other while Callum sits at the head of the table, Corbin across from us.

“Where’s Haley?” I ask, reaching for the pitcher of water in the center. I pour Saoirse’s drink first, then mine. Our bowls of Irish stew are already sitting in front of us.

“She’s babysitting Owen for Paddy and Griffin.” Callum reaches for the soda bread, grabbing a few slices, then passes the basket to Corbin.

I glance at Saoirse’s plate, and Callum catches notice. “It’s all vegan, mate.” I look over to him, and he winks. “She’ll not starve.”

Still, I take my spoon, and inspect it. The brown chunks are mushrooms. I wrinkle my nose, taking an extra serving of bread to make up for the mushrooms I won’t eat. Saoirse laughs, as I begin picking them out and placing them into her bowl.

“It’s so good,” Saoirse moans. “God, I love it when Ma cooks.”

Callum moans his agreement. “She’s been stocking us up since she found out about Haley’s meat aversion.”

“She’s an expert with meatless meals,” Saoirse says. “Had years of practice.”

She dips a piece of bread into the soup, taking a large bite, and I sigh with the sight. She’s comfortable, easy, and chatting while she chews. There’s no hesitation. No concern or conflict in her eyes. She’s eating. More than I’ve seen her eat since before I was shot.

Pride settles in my chest, warm and welcoming. I reach under the table, squeezing my hand to her knee, a desire to touch her rising through me. I’ve caught her in the past, but I was always quick to release her. This time, I’m not letting her go.

Chapter Thirty-Seven

Igroan, ploppingintothe passenger seat as Scotty starts up the engine. I ate so much food, my stomach feels like it’s about to burst. I drop my head against the headrest, closing my eyes. “So tired,” I moan, rubbing my stomach to try and soothe the discomfort.

Scotty chuckles, driving out of the garage, and placing his hand over mine on my belly. “Nothing like a post-carb nap.”

He called my bluff when dinner was over. He said his goodbyes to Callum, then grabbed my hand and dragged me to the elevator. I didn’t protest as he tugged me into his side and pressed the down button. I wanted to, had every intention of doing just that, but I couldn’t. I wanted to be with him. The thought of sleeping alone, with him under a completely different roof made my chest ache.

Still, there’s one more thing we need to do.
