“Bro…what?”

“I can only come when I score.”

There was a long pause. “Did coach say that to you?”

Ishir bolted upright, immediately regretting it as the room spun. He lay down again. “Oh, my God.”

Zee was suddenly on the bed with him. “Zam. Did coach fucking tell you that?”

“No. Jesus Christ, that would be so weird.”

“Uh. Yeah. Itisweird. Who the fuck told you to do that?”

“No one, I just…made it up myself.”

This pause was not only long but excruciating. “Why?”

“Urgh, I don’t know. I just did. Can we go to sleep now?”

Zee gracefully hadn’t mentioned that Ishir’s inability to go to sleep had been the thing to initiate that conversation in the first place.

Of course, he wasn’t so kind as to not bring it up the next day.

Ishir had been mortified. He’d never intended to tell his weird little system to anybody, much less Zee.

Zee had seemed fascinated. For a while, he’d look at Ishir knowingly every time he scored. It’d made it so Ishir couldn’t help but think of that expression when he finally got a hand on himself, imagining the quirk of Zee’s lips, the dark of his pupils.

He’d managed to put a stop to that eventually, but it certainly hadn’t helped with his crush.

Ishir had no idea why Zee was bringing it up now, so many years later.

“That’s none of your business,” Ishir croaked, taking a gulp of water to clear his throat.

“I was just wondering. So you do, huh?” Zee pressed.

Ishir didn’t respond. His face was burning with embarrassment.

“Good thing we won then, huh?”

“It doesn’t work like that,” Ishir grumbled.

“Oh, right. It’s just when you get a goal, right?”

Ishir gave him the side-eye, irritated at Zee for tricking him into correcting him.

“I guess we’re gonna have to get you that point, right?” Zee teased.

Ishir rolled his eyes, grabbing his bowl again and hiding behind it.

There was no fucking way he was talking about his sex life with Zee.

Not now, not ever.

**********

Of course, Zee didn’t let it go. The topic lay dormant for a week, waiting for the opportunity to spring out.

Ishir scored his first goal of the season on the road against the Portland Orcas. He got another off Zee’s assist not long after, a neat saucer pass from behind the net during a power play.
