Zee leaned back, mouth parting in surprise. “What?”

“Well, you know. You wingman me, I wingman you, or something.” Ishir shrank from the incredulous look on Zee’s face.

“Do you want to?” Zee asked.

Ishir swallowed. “Sure. Why not?”

Zee eyed him critically. “Okay. Who’d you pick for me, then?”

Me, Ishir thought desperately.

He took a gulp from his drink, bracing himself for the worst fucking idea of his life.

Ishir turned on his seat, assessing the crowd. There were their teammates, being a rowdy nightmare in the corner, Corona standing and pointing at the rest of them for some reason, their laughs loud.

There were groups of friends clustered around the room, pairs locked in intimate conversation, the Friday night pulsing in the air, lively and full.

One guy captured his attention at once. He’d caught a whiff of him before—an Alpha for sure. He was the kind of personZeewould choose forhim, and Ishir couldn’t help but wonder what would happen if he returned the favour.

If he pointed at an Alpha and said, that one.

The idea should be titillating. Turned out, it wasn’t so fun to be on this side of the table. There was something scorching hot about Zee whispering in his ear, giving him away to someone, insinuating himself in the pleasure Ishir received.

Doing it for Zee wasn’t nearly so interesting.

Zee interrupted Ishir’s spiralling mind with a loud snort. “One-track mind, huh?”

Ishir frowned. “Huh?”

“You’ve been staring at that Alpha for five minutes.”

Ishir rolled his eyes at the hyperbole even as a flush stained his cheeks. “Don’t worry, I’ll stick to Omegas,” Ishir snarked, more hurt than he wanted to let on.

Zee ignored him. “You sure you don’t wanna break your rules tonight? Or we can make a new one,” he suggested. “Allow me to spread the wealth when I get a hatty.”

“That’s not how it works,” Ishir rejected at once. He couldn’t get rewarded for what other people did—that was just a slippery slope.

Zee shrugged. “We could get that guy’s number. Save him for your first home goal.”

“I don’t typically pick up here.”

“Well, you’re the one staring at him,” Zee pointed out, voice edged lightly with annoyance.

“God, chill out. I was just checking out the scene. What kind of Omega do you go for, anyway?”

Zee ran his hand up in down his glass. “Just, you know. Good-looking ones.”

“Wow, be more specific.”

“Kind of funny that you don’t know after all these years,” Zee shot back.

Ishir bit his tongue. He didn’t have an excuse for that except maybe,I’m so in love with you that the idea of you with anybody else makes me want to cry.

Somehow, Ishir didn’t think it’d be a good idea to say that out loud.

“Well, we’ve been playing in different cities for four years. And you don’t pick up during summer. Not in front of me, anyway.”

Zee let out a rough laugh, although Ishir didn’t see what was funny about that. “Honestly, I’m not in the mood to pick up.”
