Ishir didn’t hesitate, driven by instinct. He found Zee’s scent gland and bit down.

The rush doubled, so much so that it was the sweetest sort of pain he’d ever felt.

Ishir and Zee werejoined. They belonged to each other now. Their ruts would line up perfectly, their scents closing them off from anybody else.

Everybody who came across Ishir wouldknowhe was Zee’s.

They clung to each other, panting into each other’s necks, licking each other’s bites languidly as they returned from the high.

“Holy fuck,” Zee gasped. “Fuck, Ishir.” He was trembling so badly that it snapped Ishir out of his haze.

“Hey. You okay?”

Zee pulled away enough to stare into his eyes. “We did it.” His tone was full of wonder and disbelief.

“Yeah, babe. We did it.” Ishir laughed, joy sparking within him.

“You’re mine.”

“And you’re mine.”

Zee’s grin was blinding. He scooped Ishir up, squeezing him close.

Ishir closed his eyes, feeling a contentment he hadn’t thought was possible.

This was where he belonged.

**********

Being mated was wild.

It wasn’t like they could suddenly read each other’s thoughts or something, but Ishir just had asenseof Zee, his presence heightened Ishir’s awareness. Having sex, scenting each other—everything had a deeper sense of satisfaction now, a calmer sense of belonging.

It wasn’t a surprise to either of them that their families were both happy about the mating and hurt that they hadn’t been told Ishir and Zee were together.

In fact, Ishir’s parents hadn’t even known that he wasgay.

“It’s your truth to tell,” Ishir’s dad said. “But what made you think you couldn’t share that part of yourself with us?”

“I…I did want to. And I was going to, this summer. I’ve just been keeping it secret for such a long time that I didn’t know how to start. The more someone knew me, the harder it was to confess.”

Ishir’s mother patted him on the head. “You have to push through that for us, okay? Fear is not stronger than love.”

Ishir nodded, swallowing through the lump in his throat.

They had a little party to celebrate the mating, inviting some of their close friends, who were all stumped but excited for them.

“I mean,” one of them drawled, “we should have seen this coming. You guys are hella obsessed with each other.”

Ishir couldn’t argue with that.

Zee and Ishir agreed to text a warning to their teammates, posting a ‘Guess who just got mated?!?!?!’ text, a selfie of them attached.

Their phones were flooded with responses, all following a similar vein—No surprise there.

Ishir sent Bergy and Orion individual texts thanking them for helping him through so much. Both of them brushed off the thanks, congratulating them on the bond.

Bergy called him that night, teasing, “So is Zee gonna stop growling at me every time I get close to you now, or what?”
