I don't want to risk my job by getting too close to a client.

That should really wait until I see her in the heat spa...if she follows through with it.

But as we reach the bottom of the slope, Emma takes a tumble, and I catch her again. This time, I can't resist the pull of her scent, and I can feel my alpha instincts kicking in. I can sense that she feels the same way, too. Her eyes widen as she meets my gaze, and I can see the desire reflected in them.

"Are you okay?" I ask, my voice husky.

She nods, a flush spreading across her cheeks. "Yeah, I'm fine. Thanks for catching me."

"Anytime," I say, not wanting to let her go. "You know...I hope this is okay to say, but I would be honored if you requested me. At the heat spa, I mean."

She bites her lip. "I um...I definitely will."

"Do you want to head back to the lodge?" I ask. "I think the snow is getting a little harder--might be the storm coming in."

Emma nods, and we make our way back to the lodge. I can feel the tension between us, the unspoken attraction that hangs heavy in the air. As we return her gear and I put mine in a locker, I can't help but wonder if she's going to make good on her promise to request me at the heat spa.

I want her--there's no denying that. But I'm not really supposed to flirt outside of the strict parameters of the spa.

As we walk over to the fire with hot chocolates in our hands, Emma speaks up. "So...if I do request you at the heat spa, what happens?"

I take a deep breath, trying to keep my voice steady. "Well...I don't really know what happens on your end, but for me, I get a notification that I have a shift scheduled, along with whoever else you ask for. I go and I get everything ready, we prep the nest, and then..."

She takes a sip of her hot chocolate, swallowing a gasp and averting her eyes. Fuck--she's so shy. It's weird for omegas out west, where they've had a lot more freedom than they did in Solstice Bay.

"I don't have to go on," I say, blushing with her. "But you get the idea."

"Yeah," she says. "And what if I've never done it before?"

My eyes widen. "Never?"

She shakes her head. "In Solstice Bay, there are really strict rules around packing up. Or...at least there were. My dad kept a lot of control over my life, and he planned on bartering me away to some other ACB family, but now...now I'm on my own, and I'm not sure what I want."

"Do you really want to do it this way?" I ask. "At the resort, I mean."

She shrugs. "Would it be bad?"

I reach for her and take her hand, squeezing it gently. "Absolutely not," I say. "Emma--if you entrusted me with that, I would make sure your first time is anincredibleexperience."

Emma meets my gaze, her eyes full of trust and vulnerability. "I appreciate that, Kai. It's just...I don't know if I'm ready."

"That's okay," I say, giving her hand another gentle squeeze. "There's no rush, and it's important that you're comfortable and confident in your decision. And if you do decide to go through with it, just know that I'll be there for you every step of the way."

She gives me a small smile. "Thank you. It means a lot to me."

We sit in silence for a moment, enjoying the warmth of the fire and each other's company. But I can feel my alpha instincts urging me to act. I want her so badly it hurts, but I know I need to keep things professional.

"I should get back to work," I say, standing up. "But if you need anything, don't hesitate to ask. And if you want to go skiing again, you know where to find me."

"Can't you stay?" she asks. "I'm...well, it's a little lonely here."

I shrug. "I'm not really supposed to hang out with the guests when I'm on duty, but...I think I can make an exception for you."

She smiles as I sit back down, then scoots a little closer to join me on the loveseat by the fire.

"Thank you, Kai," she whispers.

Well, fuck. I've never had a thing for one of the guests before, but I think I do now.
