“I’ll walk you.”

“Really, Josh. It’s fine. The streets are well lit, and the fresh air will feel good. You don’t have to worry.”

“Of course, I’ll worry.”

He inches closer and tries to cup her cheek with his left hand. She pushes his hand away and backs into me. I got closer when the space opened up. She twists to see over her shoulder. I act like I don’t notice. She turns back to Josh.

“You don’t need to. Thank you for a nice dinner, but I don’t think we’re a good match. It’s just not working for me.”

“What?”

“I don’t want to see you again.”

He stands there with his mouth open, blinking like a beached fish. Someone needs to toss him back in.

“You just wanted the free dinners.”

“Goodnight, Josh.”

“Cocktease.”

I straighten and turn toward him.

“What did you call the lady?”

“None of your fucking business.”

“Yes, it is. Apologize and leave, or I’ll have your ass dumped on the sidewalk.”

“Make me.”

“Are you five?”

I gesture to two bouncers who hurry over.

“Mark, Tony, can you see this guy out? Let Lorenzo know he should ban him from the club and Constantine’s.” I look at Josh. “That’ll suck since you’re fucking Lolli and taking every date there.”

“Who the hell are you?”

I sense more than see Lorenzo walk over.

“He’s my cousin, and I own the club and Constantine’s. I also own several other bars and restaurants. You’re now banned from all of them.”

“You don’t even know what happened. He should mind his own fucking business.”

I turn to look at Lorenzo and the bouncers. I keep my voice low, so only they hear me, along with Josh and Sinead.

“She ended things, and he called her a cocktease.”

The mood shifts on a dime. Lorenzo leans in until he’s forcing Josh to lean back against the bar.

“Get out before I break you in half. Then I’ll let my guys do whatever the fuck they want with what’s left of you.”

Lorenzo isn’t as big as I am when it comes to muscle mass, but we’re the same height. He goes to the gym twice a day most days, just like me. We’re just built differently, but he can carry my ass up a couple flights of stairs and not get winded. My money’s on him.

“I should call the police and have them arrest you for threatening me.”

Sinead cringes. It’s basically the same thing she said to the reporters when they cornered us. The rest of us laugh. It’s my turn to talk again. Mark and Tony are just the muscle.
