“I remember the things you say that you don’t think matter. They matter to me.”

“I love you.”

The words tumble out of my mouth, but the happiness I see in Enzo’s eyes is worth its weight in gold. I nestle closer to him and close my eyes for only a moment. I want to bask in this perfection and how loved I feel. I also don’t want to miss a moment of this carriage ride. But I’m not relishing the moment like I thought I would.

“Daddy, I’m sorry I made you come home early. You probably still had things to take care of.”

“The only thing that matters is you.”

I twist to look up at him.

“We both know that isn’t true. Did I cause problems for your family? For your businesses?”

“Chellie, you did nothing wrong. You didn’t ask to be targeted or for someone to attack. Running might not have been the best response, but it was human nature to flee. We resolved all of that back at the cabin. Whatever I had left to do isn’t going anywhere.”

I can practically hear the word unfortunately hanging in the air.

“I don’t want you to fear that whenever you travel, you’re going to have to rush back because I freak out.”

“I don’t think that and never have. This was an extraordinary situation. But I’m glad to be home and with you. There’s no part of my work that I prefer to spending time with you.”

That makes me want to picture what he does, but I push the thoughts from my mind. I don’t want to know if he extorts people or hurts them. I don’t want to know what he sells and buys. I don’t want that part of his life to intrude upon the one we share. Strike that. I don’t want that part ofourlife to intrude upon what we share. I am marrying him. I don’t think I’ve ever had a more decisive and definitive thought in my life. That means his life is mine as much as mine is his.

His kiss is gentle as his thumb and index finger hold my chin. All of this feels like something out of a movie. The people hurrying along the sidewalks, the car horns, the permanently slightly off smell of the city all disappear. It’s just the two of us. When we sit back, I realize we’re approaching Enzo’s place near Hudson Yards. I figure we’re heading to his penthouse, but we stop outside the Edge.

It has the highest observation deck in the Western Hemisphere, with three-sixty views of the city. It has a glass floor and angled glass walls. I’ve only been up there once and loved it. They have some type of climbing challenge in case you want to go all Mission Impossible. I would in a heartbeat, but the only person who would ever agree to do it with me is Laura. Now that she’s a mom, it seems irresponsible to ask her.

Enzo helps me out of the carriage, and we head inside. I look around and realize it’s quieter than I expected. The observation deck is open until like midnight. It’s only nine-thirty. We must have spent nearly two hours at the jewelers, and I didn’t even notice. Enzo slips his hand into mine, and we head to the elevators.

“Mr. Mancinelli, this way, please.”

I look over at a young woman in a dress I would never wear to work and heels that are better suited for a nightclub. She’s devouring my boyfriend and practically eye fucking him.

“Thank you.”

Enzo barely glances in her direction as we change course and head toward what looks like a private elevator. When the doors open practically on command, we step in. The woman takes a step to join us, but Enzo hits the close door button.

“I know the way.”

“But—”

The door closes on the woman mid-word, and it makes me want to smirk. But I have no time for that since Enzo hits the stop button and presses me against the wall. My skirt is practically at my waist as I fumble for his belt.

“Enzo, what about cameras?”

“My men have taken care of that. Seeing you wear a wedding ring is the most arousing thing I’ve ever witnessed. I’m going to fuck you, piccolina, because I can.”

I push open his pants and practically rip his boxer briefs in my haste. He lifts my right leg and thrusts into me.

“Daddy.”

It’s a breathy moan that elicits a groan from him. Then we’re clawing at one another as he thrusts over and over. This is definitely going to be a quickie, and I love it. Watching him trying on wedding bands had the same effect on me. I wanted to jump his bones right there in the store.

“Come, little one.”

My pussy is under his command. It’s only one thrust more, and I’m clenching around him. I feel him pulse inside me, and I know he didn’t hold back. I know without panties, I’m going to feel his cum on my legs when we step off this elevator. He’ll know that, and I’ll know that. But no one else will. I love that shared secret. We adjust our clothes, and Enzo hits the button to send the elevator up to the observation deck. I look down to make sure I’m fully covered again. When the doors open, I freeze.

“Chellie?”
