“Mine’s Miriam,” Levi said. “Put them both on speaker.”

“I’m sorry we’re calling on Shabbat,” Miriam called out, “but I knew Han wouldn’t have her phone off and I know you have us on speaker!!”

“You’re interrupting takeout and makeout. What do you want?” Levi grumbled, but he was smiling.

“Are you ready?” Noelle whispered, loud enough for them to hear.

“We’re getting married!” they both said at once, the words echoing from both phones.

Levi let out an unholy squeal of delight, and Hannah dissolved into giggles.

“Noelle finally got up the chutzpah to ask you!” she cried out.

“NO! I got tired of waiting so I asked her. I tied the ring to Kringle!” Miriam singsonged.

Levi had tried to bring Kringle with them, but both the cat and their landlady had objected strenuously.

“I had a ring hidden in a haunted doll, but she is so impatient!” Noelle grouched. Levi laughed, and Hannah smiled at how farthosetwo had come. They almost never threatened each other with death anymore.

“What am I planning for you? When is the most fabulous sapphic wedding in the history of New York State happening?” Hannah’s voice was champagne in her throat. After this terrible year that she thought would break her, she would not have imagined she could feel this much joy.

“What do you think, Nan?” Miriam laughed. “We’re going to have a Christmas wedding at Carrigan’s, of course!”
