“It wasn’t,” I admitted.

“And I got to hear how you ended up opening your shop, so it worked out for me.” He winked at me, and I rolled my eyes.

Of course he had listened in on our conversation. It didn’t surprise me in the slightest.

And honestly, I kind of liked that he paid so much attention to me.

He asked me more questions about the coffee shops while he drove, and I had no problem answering. His interest in my business made me feel good, and it was nice to talk to someone other than Brynn and Miles about it.

When we got back to the apartment, we spent a few minutes in his bed together while I fed him—without letting him touch me, again—before I padded back to my own bed, and promptly fell asleep there.

The next morning,I woke up horny, after a night full of steamy dreams. I stumbled to the bathroom, and when I emerged, found Rafael putting my things away in his closet.

Leaning against the wall separating our rooms, I blinked, watching him for a few minutes.

“Bash texted me. Our mom decided she can’t wait out the whole week and is getting on a plane tonight, to come and meet you.”

Shit.

I rubbed my eyes with the base of my palm. “Great.”

“She can’t know we’re sleeping apart,” he explained. “She won’t be staying here, obviously, but if she peeks upstairs, she needs to find your things in my closet.”

Right.

Cool.

“Okay.” I stayed where I was, watching him move.

“The jeweler left me a message; I’ll pick up our rings this morning, as well.”

I had figured he’d pay extra to get them done fast, so that didn’t surprise me. I hoped whatever he paid made staying up all night worth it for the jeweler.

He turned around to put something behind where he had been standing, and I saw a flash of red in his eyes.

He was hungry again.

And on top of that, clearly a little frazzled for some reason. I’d never seen him frazzled before, and I kind of liked it. Not because I wanted him to struggle, but because it made him seem more real, and less perfect.

I didn’t want him to feel like crap, though.

So, I slipped down the stairs. I still hadn’t taken the time to change, so I was just wearing his shirt and a pair of panties. The underboob sweat was real after those hot dreams, but I wasn’t going to bring that up.

Looking through his cabinets quietly, I took stock of his ingredients before making him a quick, sugary cup of coffee that I knew would take the edge off for him. Then, I grabbed a half-empty box of candy from one of our shops and carried both that and the cup back up the stairs.

Rafael inhaled deeply, turning when I reached the closet’s entrance. His surprised gaze lingered on the drink, and then lifted to my face. “You made me coffee?”

“Nah, it’s for me.” I took a tiny sip of the steaming drink.

Definitely not my favorite, but he’d like it.

His lips curved upward as I gave up the act and crossed the large closet, handing him the drink and the chocolates. “Good morning.”

“Thanks, Tater-tot.”

“No problem, Riffraff.” I winked at him, and his lips stretched in a grin before he lifted the mug to his mouth, taking a slow sip.

“Mmm. You’re good at that.”
