Sebastian grimaced.

Amusement colored Eldrich’s gaze.

Rafael laughed, loudly. “Finally, the pestering ends.”

“For you, at least.” She winked at me and then turned her gaze to her other two sons. “Bash, you have a potential mate in this city too, right?”

“He shouldn’t have told you that,” Zander said.

“Perhaps Tatum will succeed at hunting her down, unlike me,” she tossed back.

Maybe her smile was genuine, after all.

“You’ve tried to hunt their potential mates down?” I asked.

“Dozens of times, in a handful of cities. Potential mates are notoriously difficult to walk away from, after you’ve met them. Which is why they don’t tell anyone, including each other, where their mates are located.”

“So yes, our mother has been trying to entrap us for decades,” Zander drawled.

“If making your life better and your hunger easier to manage is considered entrapment these days, then yes, I have been trying to entrap you.” She brushed the front of her dress off, though I didn’t see any dust, crumbs, or lint anywhere. “We need to get going. Ready?”

Everyone agreed, and shuffled toward the door. I stepped into my boots before Rafael could lead me outside. The keys in his hand definitely weren’t mine—and something told me I was finally going to see his car.

The elevator carried us down quickly. In the parking garage, Anastasia and Eldrich followed Zander and Sebastian rather than sticking with us.

“We’ll see you there,” Anastasia called over her shoulder.

“Good work, Tater-tot.” He kissed my cheek as we crossed the garage, and I pushed his face away from mine, which made him chuckle.

I noticed the dragon shifter from my coffee shop sitting in a car near the elevator’s opening, and nearly stumbled. When Rafael lifted a hand to him in greeting, I did the same.

“You’re finally going to show me your car, huh?” I asked him, as we approached a row of luxury vehicles. My gaze scanned all of them, trying to determine which one was Rafael’s, but I couldn’t decide.

All of them were ridiculously priced, and nowhere near reasonable or necessary.

“Finally,” he grinned, leading me to the far end of the row, behind the vehicles I had seen.

And right up to a shiny, silver car that was identical to my own, but a dozen years newer.

I stopped in my tracks.

Rafael’s grin widened. “Quite the expensive car, wouldn’t you say?”

I blinked.

I was confident it had been pimped out with all the fanciest options the manufacturer offered, and probably a few extras as well, but…

It wasmycar.

Or similar enough to my car that I couldn’t judge him for it.

“You have good taste in vehicles,” I finally said, slightly reluctant. “Unless you bought this after we met, just so I couldn’t judge you.”

He laughed. “I bought it when I moved here before I went to prison. A have an older version in red at my house back in Wolfcrest, too.”

We buckled up, and I couldn’t help but admire the vehicle as he pulled out of the garage. It was gorgeous. Really, really gorgeous.

And knowing that he could’ve bought anything he wanted, but went with a reasonable vehicle, made me respect him just a little more.
