Your mate for her friend.

Rafael snarled at the message, and Zander’s shoulders tensed.

An address came through a moment later, and Zander was immediately on the phone.

Bash answered just before it went to voicemail. “What do you want? I think I finally found them.”

“We have an address; I just sent it to you. They want Tatum.”

A moment passed. “I was right; I’m at the address you sent. I’ll look around before I head back to help with a plan.”

“Be careful,” Brynn blurted.

A moment of silence passed.

Her face went pink, her eyes still flooded with tears from seeing Miley.

Finally, there was an awkward, “I will,” on Bash’s end before the call disconnected.

TATUM

Brynnand I sat on the couch, gripping each other’s hand tightly while Rafael paced the living room like a trapped animal. Across the couch, Zander’s fingers flew over his laptop’s keyboard as if the man was possessed.

Bash finally stepped into the apartment. It was only an hour and a half after the phone call, but it felt like a lifetime had passed.

His gaze went immediately to me and Brynn, and his shoulders relaxed a tiny bit. “They’ve set up shop at the new nightclub on Deck Street.”

“Should’ve known,” Zander muttered.

“The security is beefy. We won’t get past without raising an alarm. Not before Miley turns completely to stone.”

Brynn’s grip on my hand tightened painfully. Mine on hers probably did too.

“We go in together, then,” Rafael said.

“All of us.” Sebastian was still looking at me and Brynn.

“Me too?” Brynn whispered.

“No.” His answer was swift, and harsh. “You’re not one of us.”

Her eyes flooded with more tears, and his gaze darkened.

“It wasn’t an insult. You’re safe because you’re not a Villin,” Zander said, finally closing his laptop and setting it down on the couch. He did the same with the other two, and then looked at me and Brynn. “Her feet were stone, and it was spreading up her legs. That means no one has fed her since she’s turned. The pain will be excruciating—and it will kill her in less than a day if we let it.”

“I thought it takes years for vampires and demons to starve to death,” I said.

“Healthy ones. A new vampire is much more fragile.”

Shit.

I squeezed my eyes shut. “When do we leave?”

“You’re not going anywhere. I won’t risk your life,” Rafael growled back.
