What if we couldn’t get to her?

What if they succeeded at killing us?

What if—

Raf’s lips brushed my shoulder, lightly, as he finished zipping up the skirt. “We’ll get her back and make it home in one piece, Tater-tot.” His voice was still quieter than usual, but its smoothness had returned.

“I really, really hope so,” I whispered.

His lips brushed my shoulder again, and I leaned my back against his chest. He slid a hand over my very-exposed midriff, and his chest rumbled lightly. “If the situation was different, I would be driving you to a store for an outfit that covered a little more of you.”

“If the situation was different, I would refuse to change until you convinced me to stay home and get naked with you, just so I didn’t have to go to a nightclub.”

His lips were curved upward slightly as I turned around and plucked my makeup bag from his hand.

He leaned against the doorway, watching me put makeup on for all of a minute and a half. When I left it on the counter, I took his arm, and we walked down the stairs together.

I was still pissed at him, but my anger would have to wait until Miles was safe. After that, I would figure out if I trusted him enough to continue sharing my life with him.

If not… well, I wasn’t going to think about that until I had to.

Bash and Zanderwere ready when we got back to the other apartment. I gave Brynn a hug, then followed the guys to the elevator.

“What’s the plan?” I asked them, as it descended toward the parking garage.

“Get in. Get out with Miley. Stay alive.” Zander spouted the facts.

My eyebrows shot upward. “There’s no plan?”

“We don’t have time to plan,” he said bluntly. “There’s no guarantee they’re even keeping her there. But it’ll take my team a few days to break into the club’s cameras, and Miley doesn’t have a few days. We’re going in blind.”

We stepped out of the elevator and followed Bash to his vehicle. It was a massive Hummer, with shiny black paint. The glass looked thicker than most, which made me think it probably had more than a few safety upgrades. From what I knew of Bash, it seemed reasonable to assume he drove around in something that was basically a well-disguised tank.

Raf and I took the back seat, and Bash pulled out of the garage as I drawled, “Write that on my headstone. There was no plan.”

Rafael’s chest rumbled in warning.

He didn’t like talking about me dying, and not just because it meant he would die too.

Bash intervened. “You and Rafe will hold Eric’s attention. Zander and I will go through the building until we’ve found Miley or determined she’s not there. Whoever finds her will haul her out. Whichever of us doesn’t have her will rejoin you, we’ll kill Reiner, and we’ll get out. If August has a problem with it, he can dragmyass to prison this time.”

I brushed a few strands of hair from my eyes. It was still a little damp, and probably didn’t look fantastic, but I didn’t care. “That sounds better than going in blind, at least.”

“We’ll be fine.” Zander reached back to pat me on the knee, but Raf batted his hand away.

“Our people have been slowly slipping into the club with tonight’s normal crowd. They’ll keep an eye out for us so no one can kill us while our backs are turned,” Rafael told me. “And remember—”

“I don’t leave your side. I know. I agreed to it.”

He only looked a little satisfied by the answer. Considering that we were about to walk into a nightclub full of vampires who wanted us dead, I didn’t blame him.

Bash parked his tank—Imean Hummer—in the parking lot alongside all the normal cars. It stood out like a sore thumb, but he didn’t seem to give a damn, just locking it and tucking the key in his pocket.

Scale Ridge didn’t have much crime, so it was probably safe. And something told me that anyone who tried to break in would regret it.

Rafael wrapped an arm around my waist, his hand landing on my hip as all four of us strode toward the doors of what looked like a huge warehouse. The noise of the music playing inside grew louder as we approached, and I tried not to grimace.

What little experience I’d had told me I really wasn’t into nightclubs.
