Miley finally shook her head, snapping out of it.

Zander abruptly dropped the ice chest by the door. “I’ve gotta go. Blood’s in there. Good luck.”

With that, he disappeared out the door.

I blinked.

Miley started to get up, but I patted her leg lightly. “I’ll grab it. The guys said you need to rest.”

She nodded, her face a little red as she relaxed back against the couch cushions. “Sorry. Thank you.”

“If one of us should be apologizing, it’s me. I’m the bitch who brought you into all of this.” I crossed the room and dragged the ice chest into the kitchen. “Cold, warm, or hot?”

She grimaced. “Hot. And it’s not your fault—I’m the moron who thought a vampire might actually be interested in me.”

I made a face. “I did the same with a demon, so I can’t blame you.”

“Rafael isnotlike Evan.” She peeled a tangled, sweat-crusted chunk of curls off the side of her face, tucking it behind her ear. “He loves you. Anyone with eyes can see that. He even sent his brothers in to rescue and feed me. I think I knocked the poor guy unconscious.”

“You did, but only for a minute.” I put a few bags of blood under hot, running water, and then started moving everything else in the ice chest to the freezer. “Bash won’t hold it against you.”

“I hope not.” She closed her eyes again, letting out a long, shaky breath. “What do I do now? Where do I go from here?”

“You don’tgofrom here. Raf and his brothers really do own the apartment complex; Rafael will move out. You’ll stay here, with me and Brynn. B and I can snuggle.”

Her expression grew grave. “What if I hurt you guys?”

“I’m a demon. Pretty sure it takes more than a little blood-sucking to kill me.”

“Brynn isn’t.”

“Then she can stay next door.”

Miley sighed. “I don’t know, Tatum.”

“You don’t have to know. We’ll figure it out as we go, like we did with the first shop.”

She gave me a tiny smile. “I need to check on my manager.”

“Brynn already called her. Your shop is doing fine.”

“That’s good, I guess.”

“You guess?” I teased lightly.

Her tiny smile returned, but faded quickly. “I need a plan. I just wasn’t expecting any of this. I’ll figure it out.”

“Of course you will.”

Her gaze moved to the massive windows, and lingered on the view. “This really is a beautiful apartment. Can’t beat the view.”

“It is,” I agreed.

Her voice was soft. “You should stay with him. You’re happy with him. I can move to one of their other apartments, if this is really the safest place.”

The hurt and anger I’d buried to deal with the shitty situation surfaced, and my throat swelled. “I can’t. He lied to me.”

“About what?”
