I freeze on the spot. They’re already making their way to me. One wall of the alley is the back of the brothers’ garage. The other is the same but for the houses from the street over.

It’s narrow. Too narrow for two people to stand shoulder to shoulder. There’s absolutely no way for me to make it past them.

They’re right behind me.

I should run back inside.

That’s my first thought when Vickie speaks again. “Trying to escape?”

Instead, I turn around. Because I’m dumb and stubborn.

Because my pride means more than my safety, apparently.

“Escape where?” Vickie’s sister, Lea, laughs.

We used to be friends.

Practically best friends. Then she took Vickie’s side when I told them what happened to me. Her sister convinced her that I was lying, and my friend decided she didn’t want to believe me anymore. Or that I was worthy of friendship.

“She’s a stray,” Lea insists. “Where is she gonna go?”

I clench my jaw, unsure of how to reply.

“Fuck,” Vickie bursts into a laugh. “Which one of them got you good like that?”

She points at my neck and cheek. Ethan marked me. I’m covered in visible love bites.

I press a hand against my neck and narrow my eyes at her. “Why, jealous?”

“You know she’s the queen of sluts.” Lea is quick to defend her sister. “She’s probably fucking both.”

I keep my mouth shut, but my stomach twists.

I let both Elliot and Ethan fuck me last night.

“Lucky bastards,” Andrew scoffs.

There’s a short silence before Vickie registers what her boyfriend just said.

“What?”

“No, I mean…You know what I mean.”

“She’s a fucking slut, Andy. What the fuck?”

“How about you stop calling me a slut before I knock your teeth out,” I spit. “One quick hook, huh?”

That was stupid.

That was so fuckingstupid.

Anger makes me too reckless.

Lea is the first one on me.

“Bitch, shut up!”

I avoid her punch, but I’m pressed against the wall now, and it’s easier for them to surround me.
