The curtains are pulled open, and Kay turns back to face us again.

“What. The. Actual. Fuck.” Considering she’s usually someone who manages to keep her calm, the hiss that just escaped her like a pressure cooker about to explode tells me she is not happy about finding us all in the same bed, hugging naked, with Jade between my brother and me.

Ethan lets out a sigh, lowering his weapon. “How did you get in?” He’s standing on the left side of his bed, wearing nothing but boxers.

“I own this town, Ethan. I get inside any fucking house I want.”

“You better not have broken a window,” I huff, holding the pillow to my crotch.

Jade sits right in the middle of the bed, covering herself with the first shirt she found.

“Put some fucking clothes on. I’ll be in the living room.”

We eye each other the second she leaves Ethan’s bedroom.

I grab the clothes I’d discarded on the floor yesterday. “I talk, you two shut up. Daddy will handle this shit.”

“Stop calling yourself Daddy,” Ethan huffs. “It’s weird.”

I turn to Jade, waiting for her opinion. “It’s weird,” she confirms.

“Daddy doesn’t care.” I smile at both of them, and a laugh bursts out of Jade.

Kay paces in the living room, biting the nail of her thumb, by the time the three of us show up. I sit on the sofa with Jade on my left, and unsurprisingly, Ethan decides to sit on Jade’s left rather than his usual seat. The guy would rather die than leave me to sit alone with her.

Kay’s jaw works from side to side as she observes us. “Seriously?” She pinches the bridge of her nose with her thumb and forefinger. “The two of them?”

I have to adjust myself in my boxers when Jade bites her lower lip, probably to stop herself from retorting with anything that could make the situation worse.

“How can we help?” My voice still sounds sleepy, and I scratch my eyes. We’re not exactly used to waking up early, and judging by the sunrise out the window, it must barely be eight a.m.

“Oh.” Her voice trembles with anger. “There is plenty you should already be doing to help. And that you’re not.”

Right. I guess she’s pissed about me not showing up yesterday.

I run a hand through my unruly blond hair, graze my front teeth with my tongue, and smile brightly at Kay. “I’ll find another way.”

“No.” Kay’s nostrils flare up as she inhales. “Elliot, youfucked me over. I swear to God, if you don’t fix this, I will cut off your balls and watch you choke on them.”

“I didn’t fuck you over,” I answer lazily, lying back on the sofa. “I put the plan on hold while I look for another one.”

Some of the things Kay and I had planned for the robbery don’t work for me anymore, and I need a bit of time to come up with something new. My brain has been focused on Jade non-stop, on my brother and I deciding to share her. It’s a big step for us, and I haven’t been giving work the attention Kay’s used to.

“The planyouhelped me put together in the first place.”

My hand comes to rest on Jade’s naked leg, since all she put on was her underwear and Ethan’s shirt, and my fingers tickle the soft skin of her inner thigh. It grounds me to touch her. Everything is fine as long as she’s within reach. “It’s all gonna work out.”

Kay’s eyes narrow on my hand. “Right,” she scoffs. “Of course.”

She moves like a panther. In a split second, she’s got a hold of Jade’s hair, dragging her off the sofa and to the floor. Three steps back, and she’s pressing a gun against her head.

My stomach drops. Ethan and I are up right away. My brother steps forward, but Kay clucks her tongue. “I don’t think so.”

Jade closes her eyes, taking a deep breath. The pull at her hair looks unbearable, or at least that’s how it feels to me, and my eyes can’t look away from the barrel of the gun against her temple. But she stays calm, quiet.

“You had one job, Elliot.”

She pulls harder, getting a whimper out of Jade. I can see on her face that she hates that. That she thinks it shows weakness. I know grown men who would have already pissed themselves being held at gunpoint.
