He points at his current t-shirt, and I laugh when I see it’s a Slipknot logo. “Is there another one of those hoodies in there?”

“There are about a million, so I’m sure you’ll find something.”

He starts going through them, moving one hanger at a time.

“What’s your favorite song from them?”

“Um…” Why is it when someone asks you what your favoritesomethingis, it never comes?

“Mine’s ‘Surfacing.’”

“Oh yeah,” I exclaim. “So good.”

He releases a hanger, his hand reaching toward me. “This is cool.” It’s heading toward my neck, and my eyes widen. Is he about to grab my necklace? Well, not necklace. It’s a fucking collar.

The tips of his fingers graze the heart at my neck, when a strong hand grabs his wrist.

“What the—”

“Shh, shh,” Elliot cuts him off. “That’s a cute little smile you have. Do you know what would be a shame? Me destroying it with the barrel of my gun when I put it in your mouth to blow your brains off.”

The guy’s face falls, his mouth opening and closing like a fish out of water. Behind Elliot, Ethan is watching the scene with a tight jaw, his arms crossed over his chest.

Oh, this isn’t good.

“And ‘If Rain is What You Want’is the best Slipknot song by far. So take your shit tastes and your hands away from my girl before I decide I’m bored with teaching you a lesson and go straight for the kill.”

“Elliot,” I hiss. “You’re fucking insane—”

“I’m busy right now, Jade. I would never hurt you, but I will punish your cute little ass for entertaining him, believe me.”

He releases the guy’s wrist, and he races toward the exit like his life depends on it. Well, I guess it does.

“You’re a maniac, you know that?”

“It’s called love, Jade. Look it up.”

I roll my eyes, shoving my findings against his chest. “Here. It’s for you.”

“Sweet. Hey, Ethan, what’s your favorite Slipknot song?”

His good mood is back on, but not his brother’s. Ethan is staring toward where that man ran, and I don’t like it one bit.

“Don’t have one.”

He steps away, going to another aisle.

“You put him in a mood,” Elliot says.

“Youputmein a mood.”

He clucks his tongue. “When are you not in a mood?”

I turn my back to him, walking away. “I’m going to shopon my own,Elliot.”

“I’ll see you at the register when you need Daddy to pay for your shopping, my love!”

I flip him off without even turning back.
