Jade is panting when he lets her go. “Now why don’t you think real hard about my offer?”

The party has died by the time Kay shows up. I stayed up all night, partying and drinking a little too much, but mainly keeping an eye on a desperate Jade. Kay turned twenty-five at the beginning of the month, and she’s a mother of two little twins. Her girls are staying with her mom, away from the North Shore, but even without them here, partying isn’t really her thing anymore. She prefers showing up in the early morning when everyone is either gone or passed out on the floor.

She walks in casually, every step calculated to not show her eagerness. She’s with her boyfriend, Ivan. They met through the Wolves. He’s a simple soldier for them, but important to the Kings. Being Kay’s right-hand man, I do a lot of work with him and quickly understood why he’s not worth anything to the Wolves. The guy is fucking useless, and I know she’s only with him to have a direct contact with the Bratva.

Kay’s pitch-black hair is tied in a low ponytail, two strands falling on either side of her green eyes. She looks at the mess, and mainly the people on the floor.

She huffs, unimpressed, like a CEO realizing all her employees are scrolling on TikTok rather than sending important emails.

And that’s pretty much what it is, except we do illegal shit rather than send correspondence.

She walks to the shelves on the other side of the room, picking up the baseball bat we keep against the wall, and whacks the first person she finds on the floor next to her. Not enough to break anything, just a nice bruise. Then she hits the metal against the next person.

“It’s six a.m.,” she shouts. “Does no one do any work in this fucking crew?”

When people start to realize who’s waking them up, they hurry into standing positions, mutteringshitandsorry, bossas they leave the house.

Once it’s empty, she turns to me. “Wake the bitch up. I’ll get Ethan.”

Kay and Ivan disappear through the back, and I look at Jade.

She’s sleeping on the floor by the sofa, her hair wet and sticky from the things that have been thrown at her, her—or rather my—t-shirt damp, and her hands still cuffed. Shouting wouldn’t wake her up, though. Sleeping is her escape, I know that. Everyone used to tease her about how big of a sleeper she was, and I wonder what she’s always trying to get away from.

I squat next to her, reaching out to grab her small breast through the shirt. It fits perfectly in my palm. Everything about Jade’s body fits perfectly with mine. She’s a small thing, barely reaching five feet. I’m big, huge, and I can wrap her and manipulate her body in any way I want. I can fucking swallow her in one bite.

Pulling my hand away and moving to her shoulder, I attempt to shake her awake, but there’s nothing to do. When she’s in deep sleep, she can’t be woken up. Only Ethan and I know how, and we’ve never shared it with anyone. I press my palm against her mouth and pinch her nose. In a split second, her eyes snap open, and she thrashes under me, so I release her.

“Fuck,” she pants. “Asshole.”

“Kay’s here to see you,” I explain.

“What? Fuck.” Panicked, she tries to get up, but I stop her with a palm on her chest.

I help her stand up only to force her to sit on the sofa as I stand in front of her. “Now is the time to accept my deal.”

She snorts. “Let her fucking kill me.”

She starts regretting her decision the second Kay walks back into the room with Ivan and Ethan. When she sees Kay, her green eyes annihilating her on the spot, she turns to me, silently begging to go back on her word. Our boss strides to her, ready to end her.

I think I’ll let her learn her lesson before I make her a new offer.

“Kay…” Jade attempts to talk calmly, plastering herself to the sofa’s overused cushions.

She fails to placate our boss. Kay grabs her by the back of the head, bringing Jade forward at the same time as she pulls her knee up and crashes it against her nose.

I grind my teeth. I wasn’t ready to see that.

Fuck…I hate seeing her hurt, but this is a game of patience. One of us is going to break first, and it has to be her.

Jade’s whimper is barely covered by Kay’s deadly tone. “Welcome back to the North Shore, bitch.”

She lets her go, and Jade falls against the sofa again. She throws her head back, her nose bleeding.

“Get her up,” Kay seethes.

I pause for a second, my eyes stuck on Jade’s bloody nose.

“Elliot,” my boss snaps. “Today.”
