I’d never been inside, but it’s not what I would have imagined in a million years. It smells good, a flowery scent I don’t recognize, and as I reluctantly enjoy the sweet fragrance, I advance on the plush carpet. Walls are painted a beautiful pastel green, the carpet a clean cream color. I stand in the middle of the living room, spinning on the spot and looking around like I just walked inside a Pinterest board.

“What in the fucking Barbie-house happened in here?” I walk to white shelves built into the far wall and look at the pictures resting there.

Everything becomes clear when I realize that what happened is a literal Barbie walked into Xi’s life.

“No fucking way.” The North Shore playboy actually settled down. Pictures of them near the falls, another standing on the front lawn of this very house…with two bunnies in their hands.

Two. Pet. Bunnies.

They’re smiling brightly, the girl looking at the bunnies, and Xi looking at her with half-lidded loving eyes. Xi is pretty gigantic, and she looks like she barely reaches his chest. I know I don’t even reach his chest, hence why the crowbar could be awfully useful today. But even better if he’s not here.

Another smell hits me, and I look around, confused. It smells of paint, and now that I think of it, everything looks awfully shiny.

They’ve just redone the house. I press a hand against the green wall and while it’s not wet, I can feel how fresh the paint is.

Oh. How lucky. The guy wants to mess with my freedom? Why don’t I mess with his new shiny house.

Flipping around, I hit the crowbar against the shelves, a smile spreading on my lips.

Fucking asshole selling me out like he has the right.

I’m a tornado. The walls, the frames, the artwork they hung. Then the sofa, destroying it and sending foam flying into the room.

“Asshole!” I scream into the mess I caused. The kitchen door is next, destroying the freshly painted wood.

I’m about to hit again when a gasp stops me. I snap around, holding the crowbar far back and ready to hit, but I’m met with wide hazel eyes on a shocked face.

We could not be more opposites if we tried. She’s got pale skin, average height, dirty blonde hair, round eyes, curvy.

Me? Brown skin, dark brown hair, tiny frame, and eyes so sharp I could probably kill her with a look. I narrow my gaze at her, knowing the impression I give is usually enough for people to run away.

She opens her mouth, taking in a breath, and I shake my head. “Tsk, tsk,” I tut her. “Crowbars in the face are painful, Barbie. Don’t scream.”

Her entire body freezes, bar her hands trembling at her side. “Xi and I have had a little misunderstanding, but I can leave without hurting you.”

I’m pretty sure I got to her, so I take a step to the side, ready to leave. “Do tell him that the brothers found Jade, and as long as I’m alive and in this town, I’ll be making his life as shit as mine is.”

“Y-you’re Jade?” she murmurs, clearly terrified of someone half her size. I tend to have that effect on people. It’s the craziness in my mind that scares them, not the physicality.

I roll the crowbar in my hand. “I wonder what he could have possibly told you.”

Her eyes go to my inner wrist, where I bear the tattoo of the Kings’ crew. A crown, of course.

“That I’m part of the Kings,” I say for her.

Her gaze flips up, looking at the scar on my temple. “And my past with Billie,” I add.

Xi used to be in love with his stepsister. I’m surprised to see he actually managed to move on with someone else.

She gulps. “Xi isn’t part of NSC anymore,” she says in a rush of breath. “He has an agreement with Emma and Kay.”

It’s my turn to turn mute from shock.

Oh.

This isn’t good. Not good at all. If I’m currently stomping on a peace treaty between life-long enemies Kay and Emma, Kayla will have my fucking ass. As if she doesn’t have enough reasons to chop my head off.

“He’s not part of NSC anymore.” That would explain the cute littleI’m not part of a ganglifestyle. “He’s not part of NSC anymore,” I repeat slowly, attempting to process the information.
