He cocks an eyebrow at me. “Go shower.” Him ignoring my request makes me want to do anything but listen to him.

“My keys,” I insist, holding out my hand in front of him as I walk all the way to the kitchen door.

“You want the keys to something that’d help you run away from us? Think before you make ludicrous demands.”

“I won’t go anywhere,” I fight back. “I could have done that this morning and I didn’t. I’ll work for Kay, I’ll do what you want, but I want my car in return. I need money for the van and I’m going to race.”

“You’re absolutely not fucking racing under any condition.”

“What? You can’t forbid me to race!”

“Would you look at that? I just did. You might not have noticed the Kings who saw you walk around the North Shore earlier, but I sure as shit was notified. And guess why you’re still alive? Come on. Take a wild guess.”

My jaw clenches. Will he be mad if I spit in his face? ’Cause I’m really tempted right now.

“Nothing?” he sneers. “Let me help. It’s because I told all of them if they touch you, they’re going to have to deal with me. And no one wants to deal with me. That’s called holding my end of the deal. Now, why don’t you be a good girl and holdyourend by doing what you’re told. No car keys. No racing. No leaving the house without my explicit authorization. And watch your mouth when you talk to me.”

It takes all of me not to explode in an uncontrollable fit of rage. My hands tighten into fists, my teeth near fissuring from the way I grind them.

He waits a minute or so, silently daring me to fight back. And then he smiles. So fucking proud of himself. “Go shower, Jade. Your punishment awaits.”

I shove his chest, where I know his scars are. They were put there by the same man who created mine. Except his are on the outside, so people believed him. Mine are hidden, so I was labeled a liar when I spoke out.

“Asshole,” I throw back as I make my way to the bathroom.

He’s in his bedroom when I walk in with a towel wrapped around me. I don’t know where I’m meant to stay, so I assumed his bedroom will be my base since he brought me here yesterday.

“I know you can be a good girl when you want to, my love,” he says softly, sitting on the end of his bed and resting back on his hands.

That’s what’s always so hard with Elliot. Anyone who snaps at him sounds crazy, because he pisses you off with a calm tone and a huge smile on his angelic face. Manipulative bastard.

Ignoring him, I walk to his drawers and grab a clean pair of boxers and a t-shirt.

“Don’t bother putting those on.”

I slowly turn around, already feeling a jolt of electricity zapping all the way to my lower belly. “Excuse me?”

“Your punishment, baby. You’re not getting your way out of it.”

“I didn’t run away.”

He pushes some blond strands away from his forehead. The boyish innocence on his face could almost make me believe he’s not a dangerous criminal.

“You sneaked out of the house. You went to an old NSC member and destroyed his house, putting an agreement Kay has with Emma at risk.”

Giving me a bright smile, he adds, “We could let Kay decide what kind of punishment that deserves.” The moment he sees my lips parting to retort, he cuts me off. “Or you could just deal with me. Xi is not the kind to go complain to Emma. Kay won’t know unless we tell her. It could just be our little secret.”

I lick my lips, trying to control my body temperature. It keeps rising.

When I don’t say anything, he straightens on the bed and leans forward. “Drop the towel, baby.”

My heart is beating too fast already. I fell asleep with the need to be touched, then I woke up being teased some more, and he just brought it all back to life.

Fucking dangerous memories. That’s what it is. Knowing all the pleasures Elliot is capable of bringing me.

I lift my chin, trying to keep an ounce of pride as I drop the towel.

He takes a slow inhale through his nose. “Fuck,” he breathes out. “Sit in the armchair.”
