When he releases me, my lower lip feels twice its size. It burns deliciously, like a scalding hot shower on a winter day. That’s what Elliot feels like. He’s too hot to be bearable, and yet I want nothing but for him to burn me alive.

There’s an inner battle inside me the second he leaves his bedroom. For a minute, I’m sure there’s no way in hell I will stay still. I feel disgusting, used. He did it on purpose, to make me feel like I am worth nothing more than what he comes on. It starts a fury inside me that I’m not sure I can control until I decide to pick my battles.

He wanted me to beg, and I didn’t. I kept strong. I’ll take his fucking punishment and show him that there’s nothing he can do to make me break.

Doesn’t he know who he’s facing?

“What a heavy motherfucker,” I grunt as I carry Steven’s unconscious body down the stairs to our basement.

“Save your strength and shut the fuck up.” Ethan tightens his grip on his ankles and huffs.

We throw him on the floor the second we get to the basement. It takes me less than a minute to lock a metal cuff around his ankle and check that the chain it’s attached to is properly bolted to the floor.

“Alright,” I huff, shoving my hair away from my face as I straighten up. “Dinner?”

“I’m not hungry. I’ll wait for him to wake up and let him know what he’s here for.”

The reason being that he’s been the man Emma Scott uses as her link between her crew and the Luciano family. Emma finally struck a deal for NSC with the Cosa Nostra, and they’re about to get as much power as we get from the Bratva Wolves. This is not good for us, and we need to cut it off at the root.

We can’t kill Emma, or all hell will break loose. But we can kill whoever she uses to communicate with the Lucianos. Not before we get as much info from him as we can, though.

“The guy knows what he’s here for, Ethan, and you need to eat."

“I’m not hungry,” he repeats.

“You need some meat to keep those muscles alive, brother. Protein, exercise, weights.” My lips spread into a smile. “Sex?”

If only he’d fucking have sex. That way, he’d stop obsessing about the woman upstairs.

“Shut up,” he growls. "I know what I need. I won’t go back to being the weak, skinny fucker you have to defend from bullies just because I skip a few meals. Don’t worry.”

“I never said that. You’re the one obsessed with that weak, skinny fucker.”

“I’m not feeling chatty, Elliot. Drop it.”

Of course, I don’t. I know my brother. It’s important he talks things out. When he bottles it up, people die.

“Are you going to go on a hunger strike because I didn’t tell you about the bank? Grow up, will you? I’m higher in ranks than you when it comes to the Kings. You have to understand I can’t share everything over dinner like I’m your fucking dad.”

“Boundaries, Elliot,” he insists as he turns his gaze away from Unconscious Stephen and to me. “Don’t push them.”

“Or are you mad because of her? Because of what I told you?”

“Stop it,” he bites out.

My brother is so good when it comes to me. Too good. That’s the reason I’ve always eaten him alive, and he just takes it. He takes and takes…and fucking takes.

I hope my smile is as conceited as I feel. “Just keep your word, and we’re good, Ethan.” I shrug, lazily making my way up the stairs. “I’m going to go check on Jade. You know…because I can.”

He turns his back to me, ignoring the facts I throw in his face.

This girl has got some sort of death wish. She wasn’t in the fucking bedroom or garage. I’ve just stepped into the kitchen, looking for her everywhere, when the front door slams and a tiny tornado of dark hair strides into the house. I meet her in the living room, waiting to hear what the show is all about.
