“That you’re with that fuckwit King?” he grunts.

“First of all, he’s not a fuckwit. And second, no, he doesn’t know, and we’re going to keep it that way, aren’t we, Theo?”

“Sure, it’s none of my business. Not until he hurts you. Because you know damn well if that happens, I’ll be the one holding him down while Gray skins him alive.”

“You guys really need therapy, you know that?” I say.

“Finally! I’ve been telling them that my whole life,” Savvy chimes in.

“Okay, shut it. The puck’s about to drop,” Matteo says.

We watch in silence as the puck drops and Liam wins it over the Bobcats player. He passes it to Gray, who rushes down the ice. Liam and Luke are quick to take off after him. Liam shoulder-checks one of the Bobcats, knocking him into the boards as Gray passes him the puck. They’re in the zone. He takes a swing and the puck hits the post and rebounds off the net.

Luke is right there to capture the puck and take it around the back, looking for an opening. Liam manages to push past the Bobcats player trying to block him. He’s being more aggressive than usual. He takes the puck and then passes it to Gray, who slaps it towards the net. The Bobcats goalie catches it and effectively blocks the shot.

Liam loses the next puck drop, which I’m assuming he’s not taking too well, considering he’s just knocked the other guy on his ass. The Bobcats player gets up and throws his gloves off. Liam, though? He just stands there with a smile on his face. How do I know this? Because his smug-ass expression is plastered on the jumbotron.

“What the fuck is that dude’s problem?” Romeo asks.

“No idea, Lia. It’s your team. You got any clue?” Theo muses.

“Nope. Fresh out,” I say. I don’t look at them, my attention solely focused on what’s happening on the ice.

Don’t do it,I silently plead, begging Liam not to do what I think he’s about to do.

Those pleas go unanswered. As soon as the Bobcats player swings, Liam’s gloves are off too. It’s like he’s been possessed. He’s unstoppable. Coaches, refs, other players all try to get between the two of them. Liam won’t relent though. He throws punch after punch after punch to the guy’s head, before he gets him to the ground and then he’s on top of him.

Gray and Luke step in and drag Liam back. When he’s on his feet again and being pushed away from the player he just laid out on the ice, he looks up into the boxes. Directly at me. His eyes are wild, and the noise of the crowd is drowned out as I get lost in that intense blue color. He doesn’t drop his gaze, not even when he’s shoved into the penalty box. He just keeps staring up at me. Then the cameras follow his line of sight, and the next thing I know, my face is up on that damn screen.

“Guess lover boy ain’t too happy about something.” Theo shrugs.

“Shut it.” I shove an elbow back, hitting his right arm.

“Ouch, who taught you how to hit like that, Lia?” he grunts.

“I have three brothers,” I remind him.

“Speaking of, looks likethatone might have just caught up on current affairs.” Theo nods down to the rink, where Gray is looking from me, to Liam, and then back to me again.

“Great.”

“This should make things interesting.” Matteo chuckles.

I don’t answer. I do, however, spend the rest of the game glued to the glass, watching as the Knights continue to play dirty. They win, though. And not just win but kick ass. Seven to two. The final buzzer just went off, announcing the end of the game.

I hold my breath as Gray skates over to Liam. They exchange a few words, and then before I know it, Gray gut-checks Liam, right where I know there’s no protective padding. I run from the box, fully intending to rush out on that ice to stop my brother from killing my boyfriend. By the time I make it to the tunnel, the guys are walking down together with my father right behind them.

I march up to my brother and push at his chest. “You asshole,” I scream. Gray grabs hold of my wrist, preventing me from hitting him again. “Let me go,” I seethe.

“Let her fucking go right now,” Liam growls—yes, growls. He steps in front of me, forcing my brother to drop my wrist.

“You seriously want to go again, asshole?” Gray says.

“If you touch her like that, I’ll fucking kill you. I don’t care who the fuck you think you are,” Liam says, not backing down one bit.

“Enough. Grayson, locker room now,” Dad tells him.

“Pops, you can’t seriously be okay with this. The fucker’s not even close to being good enough for her.” Gray throws an arm in Liam’s direction.
