Ransom? Where had she gotten that idea from? Rush chuckled mirthlessly. “Is that the reasoning you settled on, kitten?”

“That’s the reason you took me, isn’t it?” she demanded.

He grinned. She wasn’t going to pry the information from him, no matter how hard she tried. It was more intriguing this way. Letting her wonder and worry.

“Fine, keep your secrets.”

“If you behave, you won’t be locked in your room anymore. You can go anywhere you want as long as it’s within the palace grounds. The gardens, the stables, I don’t give a fuck. You want to suck my valet’s cock? Go right ahead. Perhaps I’ll watch.”

And then I’ll claw out his heart for touching you.

Rush drew in a sharp breath. Her soft golden hair, plump breasts, curved waist. She could release every ounce of rage while riding him hard and fast, raking her nails down his chest until he bled.

And the best part?

Pax would be fucking livid if gossip spread to Starnight that the King of Sin had claimed his bride-to-be, made her quake with pleasure. Rush would relish that moment, that he would be the one holding the answer while the prince seethed, not ever knowing the truth since Aura would never be found. Maybe the spell’s delay wasn’t so bad—as long as it was corrected soon.

Aura stormed around Rush in the hallway and pounded up the nearest staircase. “What a fucking bastard who—” She gasped and mumbled a softsorry.

A moment later a maid exited the staircase, her red hair drawn back into a low bun. One of the two women from last week that he never got to fuck because Astor had walked in. She smiled and gave him a small curtsy.

“I never caught your name,” Rush purred, smiling back.

“Janee.”

Rush eyed the staircase behind her where Aura had just disappeared. His dragon unfurled as if he were about to run after her. To show her precisely what she was missing with Pax, but Rush wasn’t a complete monster—he wouldn’t touch her until she begged him to. And when that day came, he would revel in bringing his enemy’s fiancée ecstasy withhisname on her lips.

“Janee.” He tore his eyes from the stairs and reached out to trail a finger down the column of her neck. “Would you like to finish what we started the other night?”

She shivered at his touch. “I’d like that very much, Your Majesty.”

Chapter Seven

Aura

“Fuck, you feel so good,” Rush growled.

Aura sat on the floor beneath the window, staring up at the ceiling with clenched teeth as she listened to the King of Sin pleasuring someone just outside her door. She wanted to crawl into the new wardrobe filled with dresses that had been brought into her room. Couldn’t he have at least escorted the woman to anywhere else in the palace? But she believed he was doing the deed on purpose, so she could hear every moan of ecstasy.

Even though Aura had been held a prisoner in Moonstone for a week, that morning was actually quite lovely when she’d gone to the kitchens. The sweet smell of pastries and pies had reminded her of Liana, how she would start preparing something as soon as she woke. Marion had taught her how to make an apple crumble after she’d asked, in hopes that she would one day get to pass on the recipe to Liana. Thankfully, this was the first time she hadn’t burned something.

“My king,” the woman shouted. “Oh, myking.” A final moan passed through the rattling walls before Rush released a deep and guttural groan that sent a lick of heat low in Aura’s belly. She shook the feeling away and pretended it was Pax she’d heard, but her chest tightened as she wondered if that was what he’d sounded like when he’d pleasured another. No, Rush is a liar.

Rustling of fabric stirred, followed by footsteps fading away. Before today, she hadn’t seen Rush’s cocky face since attempting to escape out the window of another room with poorly tied sheets. Rush should’ve expected her to notbehavewhile being allowed to roam the hallways.

Each day, a tugging, like a pinch, fluttered against her heart. Not the painful sensation that had drawn her out of her last dream but still something. Since that strange dream where she’d conjured up a pregnant girl who vanished into thin air, there hadn’t been another.

However, when the guards escorted her to bathe with a servant or brought her food, no one answered her questions, seeming to believe she was genuinely playing a sinful and pleasurable roleplaying game. She hated them all besides Marion. The king had pricked Aura’s finger with something that had to be a mystery spell, and she needed to find a way out of the palace.

As she shoved up from the floor to stand, a hard knock came at the door. “Go away!” she shouted, not wanting to see the king or another moody guard.

It didn’t matter what she’d said, the door slowly opened to reveal another bastard. Astor. She scowled at him, and at that moment, she couldn’t decide if she wanted to throttle him more than his king. This shifter had lied to her sister, tumbled her, then worked with Rush to keep her in the Moonstone palace.

“Are you here to apologize for what you did to Hana?” she said through gritted teeth.

“Would I be forgiven?” He cocked his head, pinning her with his neutral stare.

“No.” She took a step toward him.
