Shouts rang through the air, but that was no surprise. It wasn’t every day a dragon shifted in the middle of the Starnight Court. The wedding guests were already racing toward them from afar. A smirk formed on his scaly lips, baring his sharp teeth, and he narrowed his reptilian eyes at Aura.

Such chaos,he thought to himself.Let’s go now, shall we?

Tightening his scaled foot around Aura’s body, careful not to prick her with his talons or squeeze too hard—heneededher—Rush beat his iridescent obsidian wings. Once. Twice. He leaned onto his haunches and leapt into the sky as Aura remained still. The clamor of armor filled the ground below. Arrows would follow shortly, he was certain. While the tips wouldn’t do much damage to him in this form, Aura’s body was soft and vulnerable. He pulled her closer to his chest and flew straight up into the night sky.

The darkness swallowed them, his onyx scales camouflaging their escape. Aura’s entire body was tucked into his foot, and as though coming out of a frozen spell, she finally released a bloodcurdling scream. The sound like music to his ears, and he grinned as her body writhed. There was no one below to hear her or anywhere to go except to plummet to her death. As if realizing that possibility, her sounds and movements ceased.

He hated to admit it, shouldn’t be thinking it, but she was more beautiful than he’d expected. If he were in Pax’s position, he would’ve been more than satisfied to have her in his bed. Undo her hair so it spilled down her back, strip the white gown from her lithe body, and make her come hard.

But, whether or not the prince was happy with the idea of having a wife, he wasn’t about to change his habits. Just before finding Aura alone and frightened outside her tent, Rush had seen the prince. His bare ass, to be exact. It had clenched with each thrust into the woman’s cunt as she filled the air with moans.

“Please.” Aura’s voice was barely audible above the wind cutting across his ears. “You don’t have to do this.”

But I do.

If it wasn’t for her, Rush might not have needed to seek revenge at all. No one else would give the same hint of sweetness to his vengeance. He sailed higher, beneath the stars, his body becoming one with the night. There weren’t many dragons in the courts, but enough that Rush could feign innocence. His council, his skilled liars, could deal with any ambassadors sent to Moonstone. The Starnight King had been friends with Rush’s late father, so that could be an advantage.

Rush beat his wings, the cool breeze brushing his skin as he reveled in the sense of freedom flying gave him.He needed this. The growing ache in his wings after being in the air for so long was nothing at the moment. Not compared to the lightness in his chest. Running the court took up most of his time in the years since his father passed and he hadn’t taken to the sky nearly enough. Something he would need to remedy.

The moon followed them the entire journey, only falling behind a mountain when his palace came into view. Rush glanced down at Aura as he descended and his body jerked with surprise. Her lips were blue, teeth chattering.

Fuck.

He’d forgotten how cold it could get at high altitudes. At least her body was cocooned in his foot—he needed her alive for his plan to work. He released a huff of warm air, keeping his fire trapped in his belly. Aura’s violet eyes widened as smoke curled around her. Rush enjoyed her gaze on him, the loathing she held.He snorted, smoke puffing from his nostrils, and she paled.

Rush dove toward the ground, his sights set on the waist-high hedges. The low vines had been forced to grow in winding designs so it was as enticing from above as it was on the ground. They curled around the red stone walkways, circling a pond where black swans swam, flowering trees, sweet-scented bushes, and a gazebo with billowing curtains.

And, at the very center, an open clearing, awaiting him.

Cracking his wings, lifting his upper body, Rush landed on his back feet. He set Aura unceremoniously on the ground and dug his talons into the pebbles. She gasped and wobbled as she stood, clinging to the long skirts of her ivory wedding gown.

Rush called his dragon back. His scales withdrew, sinking into his skin, and bones shifted. The fire in his gut was wholly contained, not a whisp of smoke remaining in his lungs. Another quick flicker of pain and the dragon was curled up inside him once more. The King of Sin stood before Aura in all his glory, without a stitch of clothing to cover his taut and muscular form. Aura released a shriek, her eyes saucering as she turned to run, as if she believed she could return to Starnight so easily. Rush grabbed her upper arm before she made it a single step.

“I can’t imagine I’m the first man you’ve seen bare,” he drawled. “Though, I imagine the size of my cock is rather shocking compared to yourpreciousbetrothed.”

Aura whirled around and raised her hand to slap him. He circled her wrist, halting her chance. “You’re wicked!” she screamed. “Take me back to the palace right fucking now.”

“Or what? You’ll attempt to use a fork on me again?” A slow grin spread across his face as her nostrils flared. “I told you, kitten. The wedding is off. You should be thanking me, don’t you think? Marrying that prick would’ve been a mistake.”

Her eyes narrowed. “You don’t know anything about him. Or me. Orus.”

Rush knew exactly what Aura’s life would’ve been like as the prince’s wife.Tragic.“That’s where you’re wrong. I know more than you do about the prince, and I know he wouldn’t have satisfied you. Not when he couldn’t keep his trousers on when he was supposed to be at the altar with you. Humor me: why do you think he was late?” A thrill coursed through him as he awaited her response.

Aura sucked in a breath and studied his face. A blush crept up her cheeks—from anger, he suspected, but perhaps embarrassment. “He was…”

Rush’s grin grew. She had no idea. Of course she didn’t… “He was fucking a wedding guest behind the stable. I’m certain you would’ve tasted cunt on his lips if you’d had your ceremonial kiss.”

“You’re a liar!” Aura ripped herself from his grip and he released her. She stumbled but caught her balance. “Take me back. Why did you bring me here?”

He shrugged. If she wanted to delude herself with the image of a perfect prince, so be it. It wouldn’t matter to her much longer that Pax was a skillful liar, to women especially. There was no sense in convincing her of it. “There’s no going back to Starnight. You won’t be leaving Moonstone again, kitten.”

“You can’t—”

He grabbed her by the throat, his fingers wrapping around it, digging in enough to get her attention. To let her know she washis. “You belong to me now. You want to tell me I can’t do something?” He gave a mirthless laugh. “I can do anything I want in my court.”

Aura clenched her fists into her skirts, not the least bit frightened his fingers could easily snap her neck if he wished. “Take. Me. Home.”

So you want to be difficult. That was fine. There were ways of forcing someone to submit. “Thisis your home. You’ll live in this palace until I have no further need of you.”
