Vanessa stayed quiet.

“How long?” Noah asked again.

“Nearly two years.”

He cursed in his head, staying composed.

“Remember that infidelity clause in our prenuptial agreement?” he reminded her. “You broke it, and you know what that means…”

“I’m gonna fight you tooth and nail for all you’re worth!” Vanessa shouted. “You neglected me for years! I cheated on you because you always gave me a reason to doubt your fidelity to me.” She broke down in tears. “All I ever wanted was a baby! But you kept putting it off—made excuses! And now you’re gonna divorce the mother of your child?”

“Paternity is yet to be determined,” Noah calmly replied.

“This baby is yours!”

“Ifthe child is mine, you will want or need for nothing. I’ll make sure you’re taken care of. But as far as our marriage is concerned, it’s over. We’re over. I can’t live this lie with you anymore.”

“When did you stop loving me?” Vanessa said in tears. “Did you ever really love me? Or was I just a convenient option at the time?”

“Stop it.”

“I told you I’ve been sleeping with Amir for almost two years, and you haven’t even shed a tear over my betrayal! You’re not angry—you’re not yelling or breaking things… you don’t give a shit about me at all, admit it!”

“Enough!” Noah sternly raised his voice. “Compose yourself, Vanessa.”

“No! Don’t youdaretell me to compose myself!” She became more hysterical as she buried her face in her hands and sobbed. “I never meant for this affair to get dragged out for so long. It had started out as a one-night stand.”

“When?”

“When you had gone on that work trip to Sweden two years ago… And then things got worse as we became more distant. I justified my actions because I thought you were cheating on me, too.”

“If you were doubting my fidelity all this time, you could have talked to me about it; that’s what married people do, Vanessa—they communicate!”

“You were always busy with clients and traveling. I was convinced you would have lied to me, even if I asked!”

“You know what?” Noah breathed out his anger. “Let’s stop pointing the finger at each other. You’re not happy. I’m not happy. Why stay together when we’re both so miserable?”

“Our marriage isn’t perfect, but I love you, Noah. Amir was just… He means nothing to me.”

“Two years isn’t ‘nothing.’”

“I wasn’t with him every day!”

“Justevery other day, right?”

“No! Please let me explain. Ever since my plastic surgery—”

“Surgeries.”

“You don’t find me attractive anymore.”

“You’re right, I don’t,” Noah said. “Because you butchered the face and body of the woman I married! I mean, come on! Open your damn eyes, Vanessa! I tried my best to love you, even though you never really loved yourself. Nothing can keep this relationship alive anymore. My trust in you is broken. This marriage is over. I’m filing for divorce.”

“Noah, please—”

“You can have sole ownership of the company I helped you build, but I will no longer invest in it.”

“Please don’t do this!”
