“Are you afraid of me, Aria?” Evan’s mouth curved into a wicked smile.

“Why should I be? Of course not.” I laughed.

He made me nervous, not scared.

“Good,” he answered. “You have no reason to be. I’m only ‘scary’ in the morning.”

“The morning?” I squinted in confusion. “How so?” I didn’t think it was possible for him to look bad no matter the time of day—if that’s what he was referring to.

“My voice gets… unusually deep. I’ve had ex-girlfriends tell me it’s scary.”

“Hmm… I like deep, though.”

That sounded so wrong.

“How deep?” Evan laughed as I struggled to offer a witty response.

“I just meant…”

My face was feverish. I hated it.

“I know.” He chuckled lightly, walking back to the kitchen. “Your tea’s ready.”

“That’s great, but, um… I really need to pee more than anything at the moment.” It embarrassed me to admit it.

“The bathroom’s down that hallway on the left.”

“Thanks.” I followed his directions and was more than happy to relieve myself. You can’t ignore when nature calls.

CHAPTER SEVEN

Dark Prince Rising

Evan had turned on some deep house music when Aria returned to the living room. He already knew all the lists of artists and bands that his niece listened to. He had hacked several of her social media accounts and her laptop last year, unbeknownst to Aria. Being an expert in seduction, he worried he was off his game; his niece made him nervous. For the first time in his life, he felt an indescribable chemistry that he had never encountered with another woman. It set his soul on fire. He could hardly believe that Aria was in his loft with him… how he had manifested her. His calculated planning and patience had paid off. Strategy was important in the game of chess, he thought to himself, pouring coffee into a dark mug. His evening had gone better than planned. He already knew about Aria’s plans to sneak off to a club with her friends. Normally, Evan would have picked up a woman that resembled his niece to hook up with, but having the real deal in his home was even better.

His original scheme was to seduce Aria, hoping to get a kiss before bedtime. He had a gift for “setting the stage” for opportune moments, yet sensible enough not to force it.

“You can drink your tea now.” He stepped toward his niece. “It’s not too hot.”

“Great!” Hoisting her weight up, she sat on the edge of the counter, crossing her leg over the other.

“Tired?” Evan watched her pretty face as she arched her back and stretched.

“Nope,” Aria replied. “It’s like”—she glanced at the time on his oven—“two in the morning. Wow, time flies.”

She watched him open the refrigerator before he handed her a bottle of water. “Here. You need to flush the alcohol out of your system.”

“I thought the tea was supposed to detox me?”

“H2O is the crucial catalyst here, love. Drink up.”

“Yes, sir!” Struggling with the cap, her hands felt like Jell-O. Evan stealthily moved in between her legs right when she was about to get off the counter.

“Let me get that for you, sweetheart.”

Handing him the bottle, she wrapped her thighs around his waist and pulled him closer, laughing when he spilled some water on his shirt.

“Oh, you think that’s funny, huh?” He grinned while she giggled. “Need I remind you of who’s holding the large quantity of water here?”
