Lyric wrapped his arms around me, unconcerned by how much of a mess I was.

“Shh, it’s ok. You’re safe now.”

I shook my head. No. That wasn’t it at all. I was never unsafe.

Orion bolted up, pacing the space. “I’m going to fucking kill him!”

“No.” I tried to climb to my feet, but my legs were still too shaky so I kind of just awkwardly flopped onto my hands and knees with anoof. Which didn’t help my case. “No,” I repeated. “Don’t. It’s not—I mean, he didn’t.” Gods, I needed to get my thoughts together before my brother committed murder. “He didn’t do anything wrong. I wanted this. I-I liked this.” My cheeks were bright red with embarrassment, but I needed to get my point across.

Orion watched me, weary. “Jett—” He gestured toward me, likely pointing out how unbelievable my words were. Which was fair. I knew what I looked like.

“Okay, I agree he shouldn’t have left me.” I choked out the last few words. Emerson left me. I just managed to bite back the tears. I had to keep it together until I was sure Orion was calm enough not to hurt Emerson. “But everything else, I-I could have walked away at any time. I knew that. But I didn’t want to. I promise, Orion.”

It was clear he was still doubtful, but Lyric interrupted. “Can we worry about that later? Jett needs to get cleaned up.”

Oh yeah. That made sense. At this point, I really didn’t care, but logically, I knew I couldn’t stay like this. I was in a public bathroom for gods’ sake.

I looked down at my crumbled and destroyed suit. “I-I think I ruined my suit.” Snorting, Lyric pushed my hair out of my face.

“I think so too.”

That seemed to trigger Orion’s problem-solving mind, which was better than his murder mind so I would take it. “Lyric, can you text Arden and ask him to get something for Jett to wear from our rooms?” We had a couple rooms booked upstairs so we didn’t have to drive back to the house tonight.

“Of course.” Lyric squeezed my arm and pulled his phone out to quickly text Arden. When he was done, he looked up at his husband. “I asked him to let me know when he got here. I don’t think we need anyone else in here.”

The tears started to flow again at his consideration. Was I ever going to stop crying?

“T-thank y-y-you,” I somehow choked out.

“You don’t need to thank me, sweetie. Come on, let’s get you cleaned up.”

Orion helped me to my feet as Lyric ripped off wads of paper towel and began running them under warm water.

It was clear the moment Orion saw my ass by the growls that started to vibrate through him.

I twisted my body to try to get a good look and gasped at the reddened, bruised skin. I probably should be feeling it more than I was, but right now, I was too numb.

“Orion, it’s fine. Please,” I begged. He needed to let this go.

Lyric sidled up to his husband and wrapped his arms around his waist and planted a light kiss on his arm. Immediately, my brother began to relax. It was like a knife to my heart. I would never get that. I would never be the balm that calmed my alpha when his instincts started to take over. I’d never get to know that light yet intimate touch with the person I was meant to be with.

I was pretty sure Lyric could sense that I was spiraling, so he quickly turned toward his mate and looked him in the eyes. “Alpha, if Jett says he was okay with this, you have to accept that. Besides—” He grinned saucily. “My ass has definitely looked worse than that.”

Orion’s gaze was heated but he nodded reluctantly. “Fine, but I am having atalkwith him.” He pointed at me, letting me know there was no arguing. “At the very least, he shouldn’t have fucking left you like this. I don’t care what he was feeling. You don’t leave your partner alone after a scene like that.”

That was something I couldn’t defend so I just nodded. After that, everything else was in a haze. Lyric sat me down on the chaise that was in the lounging section of the fancy restroom. He washed off my face quietly with no judgement, which I appreciated.

At some point, Arden showed up, not only with a change of clothes but with some cream. Not sure who texted him to get that, but I was grateful. Lyric helped me apply the lotion and get cleaned up as Orion and Arden spoke in clipped whispers near the door.

As my brother-in-law helped me step into clean underwear, I turned a heavy head to the door. “What’s happening?” I asked. The conversation was tense, but it was clear Orion wasn’t mad at Arden, but with the subject matter.

Lyric shrugged and smiled, though it didn’t reach his eyes. “Don’t worry about that. We’ll protect you.”

I swallowed, my mouth dry. I could still taste Emerson’s cum on my lips. The tears threatened to spill once more, and I had to look at the ceiling to try and prevent it. Would I ever get to taste him again? Would I ever feel his thick member in my mouth or in my hole? Would I ever feel his knot? Probably not. That was my one chance to convince him to give us a shot and I failed spectacularly.

Lyric thumbed my cheek, his eyes full of compassion. “We got you. No matter what.”

His honesty took my breath away. “Why?” I blurted before I could think. I couldn’t understand these people and how much they rallied around me in such a short time. Yes, Orion and I shared a father, but that wasn’t enough to form a bond or become a family for most people, yet they never made me feel like anything but.
