She feels so good.

Too good.

I punch forward, needing to be fully inside her.

We groan at the connection, our eyes locked on each other as we move, her hips rising to meet my thrusts. Her nails digging into my arms. I want her to leave notches in the skin. To mark her territory.

“Touch your clit,” I order her, jaw clenched tight to stave off my orgasm. “Make yourself come.”

When she immediately follows my demand, her knuckles brushing my stomach, I pick up the pace. I can’t go without her. My woman comes first.

“Together,” she pleads.

Or simultaneously as I feel her clench around me, causing me to jerk as I fill the tip of the condom.

I collapse next to her, pulling her on top of me, loathe to have any distance between us.

Rae kisses me and I chase her mouth when she breaks it, though I do love the view as she sits up. Her skin is flushed, her hair mussed. She’s absolutely beautiful and she’s mine.

Trying to figure out how to share it, not wanting to sound old-fashioned and ask her to go steady, I watch as she lifts her right hand. She shifts her fingers, touching every one save for the index, which remains straight, to her thumb. With the tip of her index, she traces what looks like a heart over her chest.

“What’s that mean?” Taking my hand, she shows me how to do it, repeating the actions until I can do it on my own.

As I continue practicing, she informs me when I make the motions what each is. “That’s a d for Daniel.” I love how my full name sounds coming from her.

“And this?” I make the heart over my chest as she did.

Realizing what she’s just given me, fearing that I’m misunderstanding, I hesitantly ask, “Did you give me a sign name?”

“Yes.”

“Thank you,” I tell her, drawing her closer and hugging her. “Why the heart?”

“Because I’m falling for you.”

“Good,” I state. “I’d hate to be alone in that.”

Our declarations lead to another round, then a third, both of us crashing after we’ve cleaned up. Arms holding the other tight, my dreams full of her and our future, we fall asleep.

Chapter Five

Danny

November 20th…

“It’s been five days,” Shivers says, more to himself than me as I obviously know this already. “How’s Rae doing?”

While he isn’t aware that our relationship has shifted, I get the feeling he might suspect. But, thankfully, he trusts me. However, if he believes my attachment to Rae will put her or anyone else in danger, he won’t hesitate to remove me from her case and tear me a new one.

“Frustrated,” I answer honestly. “She can’t go on this way indefinitely.” Hell, I’m not sure she’ll last the rest of the week.

“What do you suggest?”

“I want to continue on as we have been,” I admit, the man in me speaking, but the cop must take over. The Danny part of me is taking into consideration the emotional toll this is having on Rae the longer it goes on while not wanting to extend that to a physical one by putting her in danger. The badge, though? It knows the victim needs justice, that there might be others if this killer isn’t caught. Hell, there already could be and we haven’t found them yet.

“If we had the resources, the manpower,” he sighs, “I’d support that. Our department is too small, which means I won’t get the approval.” As the captain, he’s the boss over us. However, he answers to his own boss, and that person has the power to disrupt this whole department.

I’d hope people at that level wouldn’t be petty in that manner, but I’ve met some of them. And yes, they would.
