She couldn’t believe her sister had just said that. Sure, she figured Brooks was older than her, but she had no clue of his age. It’s not like his hair was thinning or white. Not that she could see.

“Jasmine is more mature than you,” Dahlia said. “So the ten years isn’t as much.”

Ivy let out a sigh and climbed the stairs with her sisters. “I’m not that immature. I’m here with you this early, right?”

“Complaining the whole time,” Dahlia said. Jasmine laughed.

They unlocked the door and it was just as Ivy remembered. The furniture was all moved around as if whoever did this thought they had money or jewels under the cushions.

“I don’t understand why they had to make such a big mess,” she said. “It’s not like they got much. Were they looking for coins in the cushions?”

This just made no sense to her unless it was kids looking for easily snatched items. The neighbor in the back said that the person running out didn’t have anything more than a backpack on. She supposed that made sense if all they took was money and jewelry.

“Who knows what goes through people’s minds,” Dahlia said. “Our neighbors said they only noticed money and some jewelry too. Nothing major. It seems like a big mess and a lot of time to not even take electronics.”

“Where is your laptop?” she asked. “That is the first thing they go towards and I don’t see it.” They were in Dahlia’s room where there was a desk her sister worked at.

“I was having a problem with it,” Dahlia said. “It’s getting fixed. I dropped it off to be repaired on Friday. My Kindle is still here. What about your iPad, Ivy? Did you look for that?”

“I didn’t even think about that,” she said and ran to her room. “I don’t see it. Dang it. I was high on the new game I was playing too.”

Jasmine rolled her eyes. “Start a list and add that to it.”

“Wait,” Ivy said. “I can try to find my iPad. It’s attached to my phone. I don’t know why I didn’t think of that last night.”

She pulled her phone out of her back pocket and did a search. “Where is it?” Dahlia asked. “Should we call Investigator Scarsdale?”

“Brooks,” she said. “That’s his name. It sounds better.”

Dahlia only snorted at her. “Did you find it?”

“Give me a minute. Wait, it says it's here. Let me ping it.”

She hit the button and they heard the pinging and went to her room and found it under the bed.

“Why is it there?” Jasmine asked.

“I just remembered I fell asleep playing it the night before. It was still there in the morning so maybe when the guy was looking for quarters in my pillowcase it fell to the floor. No clue.”

“Let’s get a game plan,” Dahlia said. “How are you feeling now, Ivy?”

“What?”

“Dahlia wants to know if your heart rate has settled some now that we are just chatting.”

“Oh,” she said. “Yeah, it has.”

She didn’t realize her sisters were doing that.

“Good. Game plan,” Dahlia said, slapping her hands together. “Do we want to all work in one room together to get it done faster or divide and conquer?”

Ivy wasn’t sure she wanted to be alone right now. “Can we do one room at a time?”

Her sisters looked at each other and then back to her. “Yes,” Dahlia said. “We can. Why don’t we do your room first? You’ll feel better once it’s in order. Then we’ll do the kitchen.”

“No,” Jasmine said. “Then we’ll do your room. You’ll feel better having that settled too.”

“I can do my room alone,” Dahlia said. “We’ll do Ivy’s, then you two can do the kitchen while I tackle mine.”
