She saw that Luke was with Zane across the room. “Just my shitty luck finding a man,” she said.

“It will happen when it does,” Heather said. “Most of us weren’t looking for it when we found it.”

“Nope,” Poppy said. “That is what I said too.”

Poppy left her there with Heather. “Are you going to tell me what is going on?”

“Nothing,” she said, grinning. “Other than a year ago there were a lot of us single ladies here dancing it up and now it’s just me and Dahlia.”

“A lot can change in a year,” Heather said.

“I know.” She hugged Heather. “I’m so happy for you all. I really am.”

No reason she needed everyone to think she was a party pooper.

After dinner though, when the music was playing in the back room of Mona’s, she decided to go get some air. She’d been dancing and laughing and having a great time.

She swung by the bar to pick up a drink when some man moved over to talk to her.

“Hi. Where did you come from?”

She turned. She’d never seen him before. He was probably in his twenties and had a few friends with him. “A party in the back room.”

“Looks like it might be my kind of party,” the guy said. “I’m Landon.”

His hand was out and she shook. “Ivy.”

“Nice to meet you, Ivy. No ring on your hand. Please tell me you’re single.”

“She’s not.”

She turned her head and saw Brooks behind her and had no idea where the hell he’d come from.

More so the comment he said.

“Oh really?” she said. “That is news to me.”

Landon looked at Brooks standing there. He was much bigger than the man hitting on her. “You heard me,” Brooks said.

Landon picked up his beer. “Heard.” Then went back to talking to his friends.

She turned to look at Brooks. The fact her heart was racing over how handsome he was, even scowling at Landon, said what a sad state of affairs her life was in.

“What was that about?” she whispered loudly. She was trying not to get distracted by the blue button-down shirt she wanted to undo and feel his chest.

Damn, could she still be attracted to the guy after he’d all but pretended she didn’t exist…until now.

“Not here,” he said.

“You started it.”

“I believe you did,” he said and then moved off to the side.

She had no choice but to follow if she wanted to get any answers.

And she sure the hell did.
