Maybe she just needed to know there was a softer side to Brooks than what was in her imagination.

“I’m glad he didn’t wait weeks to send something.”

“I waited hours to reply and then only repeated his words,” she admitted. It was probably petty on her end, but she was still running on a mixture of confusion and hurt.

Add in the day with her family and she knew it would be better to play it out in her mind before she replied.

You’d think those two words would have been easy to think of and send back, but it’d taken her hours to decide what her best play would be.

It’s not like she could ask anyone’s opinion on what to say. Then they’d know what was going on and she wasn’t ready to bring her sisters in on this.

“Hopefully you’ll hear from him soon,” Raine said. “I wish I could help. I think you are what he needs.”

“Why is that?” she asked.

“Because no other woman has made him lose control like you are,” Raine said and then walked to the door.

Ivy wanted to ask more but didn’t. Just walked Raine back downstairs and then got to work.

Luckily there weren’t that many around and no one saw Raine in her office and could question her.

She’d lie if they did and she didn’t like doing that.

Now all she could hope for was that Brooks was feeling the things Raine said and reached out to her.

Full Disclosure

“I’ll be home before one,” Ivy said to Dahlia on New Year’s Eve.

“I’ll be sound asleep,” Dahlia said.

She grinned. “I figured but wanted you to know.”

“If you drink too much don’t drive. Call me to come get you.”

“I’ll be fine,” she said. “I won’t drink more than maybe one glass of something early on.” She watched her sister looking at her. “What?”

“You haven’t been out with this guy in almost a month and now he wants to spend New Year’s Eve with you? Are you sure he’s not trying to get you drunk or something?”

Ivy laughed. She was shocked that Brooks had reached out to her two days ago and asked if she had plans tonight. She hadn’t and wanted to spend it with him. But she gave him full disclosure...it wasn’t the best time of the month. She might like sex a lot, but not when she was feeling yucky and not so clean.

Some women may not care, but she just wasn’t one of them.

It’d tell her in her mind what he thought of her. Or them. Whatever it was they might or might not have.

He was quick to reply that he didn’t care.

She didn’t know how to take that.

Did he not care if she had her period and still wanted sex?

Or did he not plan on hitting the sheets with her?

She didn’t want to ask for clarification and would address it when she got there...if it came up.

“Don’t worry,” she said. “I’ve got my period. He isn’t getting anything.”
