“We both have to work tomorrow. By the time we are done with dinner and drive back it might be close to eight.”

She burst out laughing. “Oh my, you are old. Do you have to be in bed by nine or something?”

He was glad it was dark in his truck so she couldn’t see his scowl.

The last thing he wanted to do was admit the reason he wasn’t sleeping with her was that he was trying to not be the guy that only wanted sex.

No, he had no clue what they had. Whether it’d turn into more or something serious. He couldn’t admit that to himself let alone anyone else.

“No,” he said. “But weren’t you the one that whined that you didn’t sleep much the night of the break-in and then your sisters made you get up early to go clean?”

She let out a little laugh. “Good point. That was different. That was work. This is fun.”

“Tomorrow is work,” he said.

“I like my job. My work is fun. As my sisters have pointed out to me before, when I was younger I’d go out partying with friends until one in the morning, then be at work at eight the next day. You can’t tell me you haven’t done that before?”

“I have,” he said. “But not in a long time.”

“Because you’re old. That’s okay. I like older men. You suit me.”

He wasn’t going to comment on that statement.

“What was the look that you and Dahlia had with each other when I said I was sorry for canceling a few times?”

“It’s nothing,” she said.

He heard it in her voice though. It was something.

“I thought you didn’t like to lie,” he said.

“You suck,” she said, laughing.

“So you are lying to me?”

This wasn’t getting off on the right foot.

“Not lying. Just not saying everything it was. I don’t need to have you turning the truck around and dropping me back off at home.”

He didn’t like the sound of that.

“I might not if I knew the truth. You’ve been pretty truthful with me so far, why not now?”

“You know what? You’re right. I’ve been doing the whole full disclosure thing, so I’ll do it now too.”

“Lay it on me,” he said.

He just hoped he didn’t regret it after he heard what she had to say.

Touches Of Softness

The last thing Ivy wanted to do was admit that she was throwing a bit of a fit over the fact that Brooks had canceled on her because of work.

Or that Dahlia had witnessed it and sat her butt down and told her exactly what she needed her sister to say.

That she knew what she was getting into.
