But before I could say a word, Carly leaned over and whispered in my ear, “I’m not wearing any panties.”

CARLY

Icould blame it on the alcohol, but I really only had a few sips. Okay, maybe eight to ten sips. But that had nothing to do with the heat rushing through my body as I snuggled up to Blake Kincaid in this booth.

After whispering in his ear, I snuggled even closer, watching as the server brought my flatbread over. If she noticed anything had shifted between us, she didn’t acknowledge it.

“Do you want a plate too?” the server asked.

Blake opened his mouth to answer at the same time I said, “We can share mine. If that’s okay with you.”

Nobody even said he wanted any of my food, but I liked the idea of sharing a plate. It made it clear what I had on my mind tonight.

He returned my stare and gave a nod. Out of the corner of my eye, I saw the server shrug and walk off. She probably saw flirty couples all the time. Besides, she had her hands full, being one of only two servers I’d spotted working the entire floor. Business might be slow-ish tonight, but it was still too much for two people.

The lack of other customers was good news for us. Not only did we have this corner to ourselves, but the people at the few tables that were occupied weren’t paying a bit of attention to us. That was probably what made me feel comfortable getting flirty with him.

I scooted the plate between us and picked up a slice of the flatbread pizza. It had been cut into generously portioned squares. I hadn’t eaten since lunch, but I was so jittery, I’d probably have a hard time getting anything down.

I had an appetite for one thing and one thing only, and it was the man who was letting his left hand drop to my waist. After taking a bite, I settled the square on my side of the plate, leaving plenty of room for him. He reached for one too, putting it on his side, but he didn’t take a bite. He just set it next to mine as though making some sort of point.

“Were you wearing underwear earlier today?” he asked.

His voice sounded raspy. Hoarse. He was staring down at the plate, but the air around us felt supercharged. I’d never felt anything even close to it.

I shook my head. “I would have had shorts on under this skirt if I could. I didn’t want to flash anyone.”

“So, you took them off for me tonight,” he said.

Our eyes met. The heat in his expression made it clear what was going through his mind. That was when he took his left hand off my hip and moved it to his lap. With his right hand, he reached for the slice of pizza and took a bite as he looked around.

For a second, I thought I’d lost him, but soon enough, it became clear what was really going on. His left hand slid over and landed on my right thigh just above my knee.

“So, there’s not a man in your life?” he asked.

I was trying not only to breathe but to appear stone-faced. Like this was an everyday occurrence. One of the most gorgeous guys in town was tracing his fingers up the inside of my thigh. No big deal.

“No,” I said. “No one at all.”

This was where I should tell him the truth. I should say I’d never been with a man before. At one time, I’d planned to wait until marriage, but once I decided to focus on my career first, it was all about holding out for the right man. Until today, there’d been no one who’d tempted me to give up my virginity.

Today, though, I realized it wasn’t just about this man who seemed to ignite all-new feelings in me. It was about my sudden desire to give up my innocence and become the type of sophisticated, experienced person a man like Blake Kincaid couldn’t resist.

Before I could blurt out my secret, though, his hand was creeping upward. I tried to look cool and calm as I stared straight ahead, not sure how to react but realizing that at any time, someone could look in our direction.

When I wiggled on the seat a little, I felt the slickness of my pussy. If he touched me there, he’d know what he was doing to me. That thought only turned me on more.

“Move your coat over your lap,” he said.

I shifted, dislodging his hand, and pulled the coat out from under me. As I resumed my seat and settled it over my lap, he tugged too, sliding the coat all the way over his own lap. No doubt he was looking to disguise the bulge that I’d glimpsed. It empowered me, knowing I had that effect on him.

“Another bite of pizza?” I asked.

I lifted his slice to his mouth and our eyes made eye contact. He shook his head, so I took a bite out of it. Was that supposed to be some sort of seductive move? Sheesh, I sucked at this.

He traced a line up my thigh as he sat back in his seat and stared straight ahead. If anybody glanced in this direction, it would look like two people having dinner, but nobody cared what we were doing, anyway.
