“She is a nurse, so she is working all day. She works with fucking Colin Wilson,” I grit out, still not liking that, and by the looks on their faces, neither do my brothers. The fact that it is now confirmed that my mother is having an affair with him makes the whole thing extremely hard to swallow.

“Cardiac ward?” Harrison clarifies.

“Yeah.”

“Shit. Well, we need to meet her,” Harrison says. He is the eldest brother, so he is protective of all of us, but he also needs to know who is coming into the fold and who we spend time with. He is planning to run for president in the coming years. He and Beth are already strategizing and moving chess pieces. I wonder what Katie will think when I tell her that my brother will be the leader of the free world one day. I swallow, knowing she will be shocked.

“No can do.” I shake my head.

“Why?” all three of them ask, mildly offended.

“Because, like I said earlier, you fuckwits, she thinks I am the maintenance man,” I say, hating that I dug this hole for myself.

“Wait. What?” Harrison growls, his brows furrowed.

“She doesn't know I am a Rothschild. She thinks I am just Eddie, the maintenance man.” I feel sick to my stomach.

“This is the funniest shit I have ever heard,” Tennyson says as he bends over and slaps his leg, laughter spilling out from him. But he is the only one.

“You lied?” Ben questions, the lawyer coming out in him.

“I didn’t lie… I just didn’t tell her everything.”

“This is not going to be good…” Harrison huffs a breath, shaking his head.

“I tried. I tried to tell her.” I sound pathetic.

“Try harder. We don’t need this to come out in the media. A Rothschild playing trick games with a young woman new to the city just to bed her.” Harrison scowls.

“I am not just bedding her.” I step forward, my finger in his face. He looks at me, glances down at my finger, and back at me.

“Make it right, Eddie. She deserves the truth. If she likes you, it shouldn’t matter if you come from money. You’re a good guy. Better than most. She will like you for you, I’m sure of it,” he says softly, slapping my shoulder and giving it a squeeze.

“Now take your shot, fuck boy. I need to get back to Willow’s,” Tennyson says, making mention of his woman, the one who didn’t care too much about his last name either.

“Mom presented me with a list,” I say to them as I take my putt. The ball overshoots, missing the hole completely. My game is going from bad to worse.

“What kind of list?” Harrison asks. He steps up to me. He is my father figure, has been ever since Dad died years ago.

“A list of potential women to make my bride.” I hear Tennyson curse, causing him to overshoot the hole as well. He slams the club down on the ground like a child, his jaw tight. He hates our mother.

“Did you tell her that you are not interested?” Harrison presses, as Ben takes his shot.

“Yeah, did you tell her that you are too busy being balls deep in a pink delight to worry about marrying anyone from high society?” Tennyson says, walking past and throwing his club into the bag as he sits back in the cart.

“Shut up,” I murmur to him.

“Seriously, Eddie, you need to tell her to butt out or she can be dangerous,” Ben says. He hasn’t seen our mother in months. Even before then, it was only for business meetings. He has shut her out completely.

“I know. I told her.” My brothers all look at me with concern.

“Sounds like you got some things to sort out. Between telling your new girl that you are a Rothschild, and then telling Mom to back off, you are stuck deep in women's problems this week, brother,” Tennyson says, his tone serious.

I nod. I agree with him. “I will tell Pinkie tonight. I will tell her everything,” I say, trying to push down the rising nerves. I haven’t been nervous of that fact before. Probably because most people know exactly who I am, and I usually don’t care enough to be bothered by what they think of me. But Pinkie is different.

So, I know I need to tell her. I need to come clean. She needs to know the real me.
