Shit blowing up around you should not be a mystery.

“You think it could be connected to these girls hanging around us?” I asked. “I mean, none of this started until after Sloane hooked up Aero.”

Compass cocked his head to the side. “But why would they blow up the gym?”

I nodded to Olive and Cue Ball, who were curled up on the couch together. “Maybe it has something to do with Olive or Faye.” Those two were the only ones who were at the gym regularly cleaning it before it blew up. “What about Faye’s ex?”

Compass pursed his lips. “I did think about that idiot.”

“We ever look into him more?”

Compass nodded towards Fade. “He did right after that shit with Faye happened on the side of the road, but he didn’t come up with anything.”

“How deep did he dig?” I asked.

“What the hell crawled up your ass?” Compass laughed. “I’m sure Fade checked him out thoroughly.”

“Sorry, man, I just feel like this TV show is distracting us from the explosion, and something bad is going to happen.” I had a feeling in my gut I wasn’t able to shake.

Compass nodded. “You may be right. We can discuss it in church tomorrow.”

“With the cameras rolling?” I grumbled.

“No cameras in church. You know that.”

Yarder had told us that, but I was a little skeptical since there were cameras everywhere else in the fucking clubhouse. The only places that were off-limits were church, our bedrooms, and the bathroom. But there were cameras at each entrance of those places.

“She keeps looking at you.”

“Who?” I asked.

Compass nodded to the poker table. “Dove. She’s looked at you at least ten times since we’ve been talking.”

“She’s not looking at me,” I grunted.

“There, she just did it again,” Compass pointed out.

She had looked in our direction, but it was a stretch to say that she was looking at me. “I think we might need to get you some glasses, Compass. She’s not looking at me.”

“Come on, man. You’re telling me you wouldn’t like it if she was interested in you? She’s not at all hard on the eyes.”

I grunted and finished my drink. “Yeah, she’s hot, Compass, but I’m pretty sure she doesn’t like me. She glares at me all of the time and likes to argue with me.”

“Sexual tension, you mean.”

I leaned back and squinted at Compass. “You been reading those romance books Sloane is always talking about?”

Compass shrugged. “I might have paged through. She leaves them lying around all over the place.”

That she did. I couldn’t tell you how many bare-chested dudes I had stumbled upon when trying to find the TV remote. I never read one, though. “Well, you can take that sexual tension you think you see, and throw it out the damn window, man. Dove is not at all interested in me.”

“But are you interested in her?” Compass asked.

“I don’t even know her, and it’s not like I will.”

A loud, long horn blared, and everyone froze.

“What the fuck is that?” Yarder growled.
