“Is anyone there?” Mistress Jade asked. Her tone screamed of annoyance.

“Yes.”

“Ah, dearest Skyler. Have you made your decision?”

“I have,” Destiny whispered.

“Excellent.”

Beads of sweat bubbled across her lip. “I can’t. I’m sorry.”

Come to me…

He appeared out of the shadows. His eyes penetrated though the sunlight.

“That’s too bad, but I understand,” Mistress Jade stated with no inflection. “As I mentioned before—”

“I mean. I’m nervous but eager and you were right. I’ve been hiding for so long. I need more out of my life.” The words were blurted out without reservation. As soon as she’d agreed, she relaxed.

“Interesting. Then let’s get started with a moment of truth. What’s your real name?”

Destiny squinted but made her choice. “Blade, Dr. Destiny Blade.”

“Then Dr. Blade, I’ll get back to you after your security check.”

“You can’t go in there!”

Christopher looked up from his desk hearing Jennifer’s agitated exclaim. When his door was thrown open, he growled. “What is the meaning of the intrusion?” Seeing Stephen Drummand’s enraged face made him smile. “Well, I certainly didn’t expect to see you here today.”

“I’m sorry, Mr. Worth. He just barged in. Would you like for me to call security?” Jennifer bustled in behind Stephen.

“No need.” Christopher waved her off. This was going to be fun.

Jennifer gave Stephen a dirty look before exiting, leaving the door wide open.

“Go ahead, call security, you fucker!” Stephen strode closer to Christopher’s desk. His face was beet red, saliva popping out of his mouth with each word. “Then I’ll be able to tell the world what a lying schemer you really are. You can’t get away with this.”

“You know, Stephen, I would have honestly thought you’d be buried in a bottle, licking your wounds.” He gave his enemy a once over before returning his attention to completing the contract.

“You mother fucking asshole. What did you do, promise to screw the old man’s wife?”

Exhaling, Christopher rose from his desk, walking slowly toward his bar. He selected his prized scotch and poured a single glass, taking a sip and savoring before turning to face the man. Of course, he’d allowed certain pertinent information to be leaked.

Stephen shook his head and laughed. “You really don’t understand who you’re playing with, do you?”

“Playing with? Fantastic choice of words. This is business, Stephen. I play to win and as you’ve found out, I usually do.”

“Using criminal tactics.”

He chuckled and eased toward the window, staring down at a street filled with people enjoying the later afternoon sun. “I don’t need to use vile methods. I simply find the weakness in those vying against me and use the knowledge as needed.”

Stephen gulped and gripped the edge of Christopher’s desk. “What in the hell are you talking about?”

Christopher studied his rival in the glass.

“If you’re talking about the BDSM and the club, two can succeed at that game, my friend. I doubt you’d want your clients or the good people of Richmond to know what a low life you really are.”
