The bottom floor was where his fully-equipped gym and his office were. There was also a game room, a fully stocked bar, and wet room. Upstairs had three bedrooms, a very impressive kitchen and dining area as well as the living room.

Taking a deep breath, he strode to the door to let her in and felt a punch to his stomach. She’d changed out of the poor excuse for a dress and was wearing sheer black leggings and a thin cashmere sweater.

Her hair was still loose around her face and tumbling down her back. She’d also removed her makeup, giving her an innocent beauty that tugged at his heart.

"Well?" She folded her hands over her chest, dark brown eyes shooting fire.

"Inside." Stepping back, he allowed her to pass him before closing the doors behind her.

"Drink?"

"No."

"I was having a glass of whiskey." He moved past her and stepped into the living room. "What the hell were you were doing with that jerk?"

"What I do with my own time is none of your concern." She stood just inside the doorway, her stance combative. She’d taken him at his word that if she didn’t come here, he’d show up at her place. She told herself that was the only reason she’d come. "And you were with someone."

"A friend."

"You seem to have a lot of those." Her voice was sarcastic. "What happened to Myra?"

"She had an emergency."

"And that woman happened to be available."

He gave her an amused stare that made her want to scratch his eyes out. "She was. And her name is Annie."

"I know her name."

He made a tsk sound with his mouth. "Such language and from a classy lady like you."

She glared at him. "You did this to me."

"Did what to you? Are you going to stay inside the doorway all night?"

"I’m going home."

"I don’t think so." Tossing back the rest of the drink, he approached her, his panther-like strides sending dizzying feelings tumbling around inside. "I hope you gave the old man a good excuse, because you’re not leaving here tonight."

"You don't get to dictate to me. How dare you not call me for days and then expect me to drop everything to come and have sex with you!"

"Who said anything about sex?" His hand lifted to cup her cheek and then the back of her neck. "We need to talk, darling, and we haven‘t been doing that for almost a week."

"You were with someone else."

"I was having lunch with a client who happens to be a friend."

"Who was also your lover."

"Lover?" He rolled the word around inside his head and dismissed it immediately. "That doesn’t sound appropriate. We tore up the sheets for perhaps two weeks and decided to call it quits. Her career was taking off and she had to travel all over the Caribbean.

We decided the sensible thing to do was to part amicably and we did." His fingers were gripping her neck. “Absolutely no need for jealousy.”

“I’m not jealous, just disgusted."

His eyebrows winged up. "Yeah? Feels like the green-eyed monster to me."

"Don't flatter yourself." She started to push him away, but he wouldn’t budge.
