Her finely plucked eyebrows lifted. "Oh, I think it's fifty-fifty."

"Right. What should I know?"

"I’ve been reading up on the negative connections to your company."

"And?"

"I’ll be asking some very pertinent questions, and as your friend-"

"Friend?"

"Former lover." She smiled at him in a benign manner. "Or someone you banged when you felt down."

"We picked each other up."

"We did. I was going through a messy divorce and you were going through a trying time and we were there for each other."

"Precisely."

"I’d like to think we’re more than just a thing that happened several years ago." She spread her hands. " I’m a wife and mother and I’m happy. Fulfilled, if you prefer.”

“I’m happy for you." Maxwell told her dryly.

"Of course you are." She gave him a sober look. "You know I’m going to touch on your personal life?"

"This is about my company."

"And the man behind it." She smiled at his mulish expression. "Darling, you must know that people are curious about that side of things. You hadn’t been with anyone for almost a year and suddenly you’re paired with Annie of all people.. I’m annoyed I couldn’t get her to come today as well."

"I’m happy she didn't." He glanced at his watch pointedly. "I think we are up."

“Where are you?”

“I just came home.”

“Turn on your television set.”

“Why?”

“Just do it.”

Alessia went into the library and closed the door behind her. Walking over to the desk, she picked up the remote and turned the set on.

“What channel?”

“The Nadine Overly show.”

She searched and found the station, her body going still as the man who haunted her dreams came on camera. He looked relaxed and confident and was actually smiling.

“Call me when it’s finished.” Michael said before hanging up.

“So, Maxwell, we’ve been over the trouble that has been plaguing your company for the last few months and you’ve explained to the audience and those who are watching what you’ve done to eliminate the problem.

Is it difficult keeping up with the latest technological trend?" Nadine waved a manicured hand. "I’m as dumb as a doorpost when it comes to things like that. I have a doorbell alarm that lets me to see who is approaching so I can be on the other side of the world and still see what is happening inside my house.

However, these things have been compromised a number of times. It's scared me to know that we’re not really safe." She paused and pretended to look at her device. "Your brand, your very sophisticated and highly expensive brand, has proven to be different. Why is that?"
