His confession shook her to the core and for a few minutes, she didn’t react. He was strong and tough and ruthless; had to be for what he’d gone through, and it humbled her he was so vulnerable when it came to her. She was his only weak spot.

"Darling, please come here."

"I need a minute."

"Maxwell."

Her soft cultured voice was always his undoing and he found himself going back to sit on the edge of the bed.

"What?"

"I love you so much, darling." She took his hand in his. "If you want me to stay in a bubble until I have our baby, then I will. If you want us to continue with the lukewarm version of our lovemaking, then I’m willing to make the sacrifice, because that’s how much I love you."

A reluctant smile played on his lips. Only her, he thought in amazement. She was the only woman who could drive him crazy one minute and had him laughing the next. "Lukewarm?" His eyes glinted dangerously.

"Yep." Her impish smile came. "A shadow of what we used to do."

"Is that a challenge?" He growled.

"It just might be."

"I hope you remember this moment."

"Oh, I will. Better?" She asked him tenderly.

"Yes." Gathering her into his arms, he breathed her in and closed his eyes. "I adore you."

Alessia studied herself in the mirror critically. The dress was light as a feather, something she'd insisted on. The champagne-colored silk floated around her every time she moved. It had thin straps crisscrossing at the back and a cinched-in waist.

She was four months pregnant and still not showing except for a slight bump that was only noticeable when she was naked. Just as she’d predicted, after her two day stay in the hospital two weeks ago, she was feeling on top of the world. The nausea had vanished as if by magic and she was eating the place down.

That still wasn’t enough for her soon-to-be husband. He wasn’t taking any chances. She’d had to practically twist his arm for him to agree to the honeymoon at the villa in Italy to make up for the time she’d missed out on.

"I don't want you traveling." He’d said stubbornly.

"I’ve been cleared by my doctors."

"I don't give a crap. What if something happens while we’re in the air? Or even when we’re out of the country? What then?"

"I’m assuming they have doctors in Italy."

He just folded his arms and stared at her; hazel eyes flat with determination.

"This is my wedding and I have relinquished the planning to the wedding planner as per your orders, I’ll be damned if I’m not going to have a say in my honeymoon." When that hadn’t moved him, she’d resorted to pleading and that’d done it.

Now, she was getting ready for her wedding. The weeks leading up to the day had been hectic. She’d gone back out a little bit, getting involved in her charities. The guest list had been another source of contention between them.

"We’re not inviting all of these people. Forget that. Cut the list in half. You said an intimate ceremony."

"If I invite some and leave the others off, they’re going to be offended."

"Let them be offended. I don't give a rat's ass. I don’t even know half of them."

"They work on the various charities with me."

"Half, Alessia, and I mean it. I’m not having a circus. If it was up to me, it would be you and me, your Dad and my aunt."
