“That sounds like him,” I said feeling relieved.

“By the way, how are things going with him? You two seemed snuggly last weekend.”

“I thought things were going great. But then his mom said what she did and now he’s M.I.A.”

“I wouldn’t worry about it. He can get like that. If you give him a few days, I’m sure things will settle,” Quin said as he pulled his phone out of his pocket.

Flicking the screen on, Quin squinted as he read a text. With a few more swipes I heard the audio from a video. As soon as someone woohoo’d he lowered the volume. Continuing to watch, Quin looked more uncomfortable.

“What is it?”

Quin opened his mouth to speak then stopped and watched the video to the end.

“You’re freakin’ me out a little, Quin. What’s going on?”

Quin looked up at me rattled.

“Cage just sent me a video that his old teammate posted on one of his socials.”

“What was the video?”

“Umm,” Quin’s eyes bounced around.

“Seriously, Quin. You’re freakin’ me out.”

“Sorry. Maybe you should just watch it.”

Quin handed me his phone. The first frame of the video filled the screen. It was of Nero. He had a woman dancing on his lap and she was butt-ass naked.

I looked up at Quin who was stone-faced. Returning to the phone I pressed play. I couldn’t tell if he was in a strip club or somewhere else. But there were other football player-looking guys standing around watching as Nero motor-boated the naked woman’s huge breasts.

What was most upsetting was that he seemed to love it. He stared at her body wide-eyed. When she moved her naked hips to grind inches from his face, his head dipped in as if he wanted to take her into his mouth. It was as he dipped forward a second time that the video cut off.

“I’m sorry,” Quin said looking at me heartbroken.

I didn’t know what to say or think. Was this what he did every time his team took a road trip? Was someone like her who he really wanted? Had I been a fool to fall for Nero?

Once again a football player had hurt me. It might not have been in the way it was in high school, but it hurt just as much. Maybe more.

“Kendall, I don’t think this is Nero.”

“You don’t think that’s him in the video?”

“No, it’s him. But, I don’t see him choosing to do something like that.”

“Yet, there he is doing it. Where did you say Cage found it?”

“I think it was on an ex-teammate’s Instagram account.”

“So, everyone has seen this?”

“Not everyone. I’m sure it’s just a few people. I’m going to ask Cage to ask his teammate to take it down.”

As Quin texted, I thought about what I had just seen. Hadn’t Nero talked about wanting to go pro? Why would he put himself in this situation?

“Do you think Nero knows the video was posted?” I asked Quin.

“I don’t know. Cage didn’t say whether he sent it to him.”
