“And he mentioned something about getting your town on the map?”

“Yeah. It turns out that the only way we can do it is to incorporate the town. It requires a town-wide vote. I’ve been organizing it while campaigning for it.”

“Wow! Looks like I was just holding you back,” I said jokingly but afraid it might be true.

Titus looked down instead of responding.

“So, if you could have hope about all of those things, why not have a little hope that you will find your brother?”

“Some things hurt a little more when you’re disappointed.”

Again, ouch!

“Then, how about if I help you? I could have the hope for both of us,” I said with a smile.

“Help me? How?”

“I don’t know. But there’s got to be someone in your town who knows something, right? Hell, someone there could be your brother without knowing it. I could find them for you.”

“Lou…” he said about to brush me off.

“Please, Titus,” I said reaching across the table and putting my hand on his forearm. “Let me do this for you. It’s the least I can do. Let me help.”

Titus thought about it. Waves of pain washed across his face as he did. Had I hurt him that much? It was yet another reason I needed to help him. I couldn’t let him be alone. He was too great of a guy. And if finding his brother would cure him of that, it was something I had to do.

“I’ll think about it,” he told me as our order came.

“You think about it,” I told him happy that I might be getting him back into my life.

Chapter 8

Titus

“You didn’t come to the after-party?” Cali said when I got back to our room.

“Yeah, sorry about that. Lou and Quin showed up after the game wanting to grab something to eat.”

“So, you ditched the party and didn’t invite me?” my roommate asked hurt.

“It wasn’t intentional. And Quin didn’t even end up joining us.”

“Oh. So it was just you and Lou?” he asked suddenly giving me his full attention. “How’d that go?”

I considered what I had told him about my feelings for Lou. I hadn’t told him that I was in love with Lou, but he had to know I felt something for him. Cali had helped me arrange the memorial for Lou’s grandmother. I told him I was spending the weekend at his family’s estate pretending to be his fiancé. And he saw how I was when I got back.

I have not been in a great mood. This was the first time I felt anywhere near myself. He had to have made the connection. But, could he have guessed that we had done naked things together?

“It went, okay. We talked. We both apologized for what happened.”

“What happened?”

I stared at him wondering what I should say. The only people who knew I was into guys were Quin and Lou. And Lou only knew because I told him I loved him.

Was I straight except for my feelings for Lou? No. I had always found guys hot. So, was I gay? I haven’t been able to see anyone past Lou since meeting him. So maybe. But that would mean that everything I felt for girls throughout high school would have been a lie.

“Can I tell you something, Cali?”

Cali froze and then shifted to the edge of his bed. Giving me his full attention he said, “Yeah, man. Anything.”
