“Lou’s probably involved with the wedding planning, right? That doesn’t seem like something Sey would do,” I said. “Someone there has to be in contact with him.”

“Can you call them?” Quin asked.

“There are two problems with that. One, I don’t have their number. And two, they love Sey and really hate me. I wouldn’t be surprised if they were behind their shotgun wedding just to keep us apart.”

“So, you agree that Lou might be pregnant?” Quin asked.

I stared at him confused for a second and then laughed. We all did.

“He’s probably not pregnant,” I assured them. “Unless your family has invented something I don’t know about,” I told Quin.

“No, that’s still impossible as far as I know,” Quin conceded.

“So, how are we gonna ask Lou’s family where he is?” Cage asked.

“And if we can talk to him,” Quin added.

“I’ll go there,” I told them after some thought.

“You said they hated you,” Cage reminded me.

“They do. But what other choice do we have? I could suggest trying to beat it out of Sey, but something tells me that he would die before giving Lou up.”

“He loves him?” Quin asked.

“Didn’t you tell me that sometimes it isn’t about love?”

“What could it be about?” Cage asked.

None of us had an answer.

Deciding I would drive to the estate in the morning, I left them and attempted to continue my day. I had a class that I attended and as evening approached, the team had practice.

After my fight with Sey, there weren’t many people who were still talking to me. I couldn’t blame them. From the outside, it looked like I was the bad guy. I would have thought the same thing if I was them.

As far as they knew, Lou was Sey’s fiancé. A few of them were there the day he proposed. I was the asshole who cheated with Lou. I was the homewrecker as far as they were concerned. And now I wasn’t even making up for it with my play on the field.

There was one person who knew the truth, though. I kept my eye on him from the moment he arrived. If he gave the slightest indication that he was hurting Lou, no one would be able to stop what I would do to him.

He never dropped his charm. Not a hair was out of place. He almost made me believe that I was the crazy one. After all, how could someone as perfect as Sey be doing anything wrong?

Sey was the proud out gay man who had proposed to the guy he loved while playing a sport that didn’t accept him. Who was I but the closet case sneaking behind people’s backs? Sey was the hero while I was the villain.

I was sure that Lou’s family would see me the same way. His mother had told Quin to make me go away. I was nothing to them. They probably saw me as less than nothing. Hell, they had stolen their own son’s inheritance. If they were willing to do that to him, what would they do to the country bumpkin showing up at their door trying to stop their wedding?

I couldn’t think about that. Someone in that family had to know where he was. I was going to get it out of them. I didn’t know how, but I would.

Although I had seen him at practice, it wasn’t until I returned to our room that Cali and I spoke.

“Hey,” he said unable to meet my eyes.

“Hey.”

“Sorry,” he said saying it all.

“No. Thank you,” I told him.

He looked up at me and smiled.
