“Cali looked at me confused.

“No, he’s fine. Why do you ask?”

“He thinks you don’t like him.”

Cali turned away without responding.

“We should head in,” he said, exiting the truck.

My heart thumped as we approached the front door. This new experience was at once terrifying and exhilarating.

The person opening the door had curly hair and a broad smile.

“Cali, you made it. And this must be Hil?” he said, turning to me.

“Hil, this is Titus,” he said, introducing us.

“The brother,” I said, seeing the resemblance.

I struck out my hand for a handshake when Titus stepped forward brushing it aside.

“We don’t shake hands here, we hug,” he said, throwing his arms around me.

I was surprised, but I loved it. After Titus, I met Quin, Lou, and Kendall, who were small guys like me. And then Cage and Claude who were both muscular and gorgeous.

Did you say your name was Claude?” I asked, trying not to seem too surprised.

Claude looked at Titus and Cali. They all laughed.

“Yes, I’m the black sheep of the family,” he said referencing his brown skin.

Out of all of them, Claude was the most regal. In a room full of jocks, Cage was probably the most like a quarterback. Quin seemed like the most popular. Lou seemed to be the most fun-loving. Kendall seemed the most reserved. And Titus seemed the most like a great guy. I wasn’t sure how Cali fit into the group. But he seemed as comfortable here as I felt welcomed.

Once the games began and the drinks started flowing, I learned a lot about everyone. I wasn’t the only one from New York. Quin was as well. He grew up in a building overlooking Central Park. Not only did his family have money, but they we’re worth billions. It was amazing that he was so down to earth.

“Do you miss the city?” I asked him, fascinated by his story.

“Not really. Everything I need I can find here,” he said humbly.

“He likes hanging amongst the common folk,” Titus joked.

Quin didn’t respond.

“Don’t say it like that,” Lou added.

“Then, how am I supposed to say it?”

“You know exactly how,” Lou insisted. “You say that he’s slumming it with the common folk. And we mere mortals are grateful to be around one of the gods.”

Everybody laughed.

Titus leaned towards me.

“We just like to tease Quin because he’s so great at everything. It makes us feel better for when he kicks our ass later on. The guy is a literal genius. Quin, say something genius,” Titus said, turning everyone’s attention to Quin.

“Titus, you’re a moron,” he said flatly.

“Come on, baby,” Cage replied. “It doesn’t take a genius to figure that out.”
