“Tomorrow,” I confirmed and then showed him out.

After watching him walk to his car and drive off, I returned to the kitchen to find Momma there. I was expecting her to make a big deal about everything, but she didn’t.

“He seemed nice.”

“He has his moments.”

“You’re smiling,” she pointed out.

“Am I?”

“You are,” she said with a smile. “Is this about the football or him?”

I shrugged and headed upstairs to my room.

The next morning I headed into the office knowing Titus would be there. We still had a few things to do to prepare our new place before the season started and not having class on Mondays, he had agreed to help.

“It was fun last night,” I told him as we installed the glass case for our t-shirts.

“It was! And you know you’ve become a legend, right? We didn’t even think it was possible to beat Quin at a game. You might have shaken his entire worldview.”

“If you insist,” I conceded. “So, something funny happened when I got home.”

“What was that?”

“I had a guest.”

Titus stopped working and stared at me. “Who?”

“Merri.”

Titus tilted his head quizzically. “And?”

“And, he was there with an offer.”

“From his team?”

“No. He has an ex who can get me into a special showcase.”

“That’s amazing.”

“But, I would need to spend the summer with him training.”

“Are you doing it?” Titus asked excitedly.

“I don’t know. I have responsibilities here… with you.”

“Are you talking about this place?”

“Yeah.”

“Lou and I can handle it while you’re gone,” he said with a smile. “He’s already been talking about ways he can be involved with the business. I think he’s trying to get me to invite him to live with me.”

“Oh, that’s right. He’s graduating this spring.”

“Yeah,” Titus said nervously.

“And?”
