They ran out, slamming the door before locking it.

My head fell forward and I giggled. “Bye-bye Giordano boat.”

“This boat?”

Lazily, I opened my eyes to see the corner. Sweet green eyes stared at me.

“No.” I shook my head, or at least I tried to. “This one’s a Marchetti boat.”

She sniffled. “I’m sorry I hurt you.”

My eyes closed on their own and my head flopped again. “Wasn’t your doing. Only his.”

Wrapping her arms around her cold legs, she asked, “Who is your prince?”

The little boy appeared in my fading mind. “My storm.” Electric blue tears lit up the blackness that kept trying to possess me. I had never been so tired, so worn.

No longer making any sense, all I could do was sing:

Riding through the night, under the moonlight

I hold on to you

Riding from my past, hoping all this will last

I hold on to you

The closer we get to the future unknown,

I hold on to you

I hold on to you

When the rain is too much, I shelter in your touch.

Your tears and blue light, guiding me to my fight.

I hold on to you.

I hold on to you.

The door swung open, causing the huddled slave to whimper.

Not me.

Lips barely moving, I berated, “Back for more, asshole?”

There was movement around me, but my eyes couldn’t open any longer.

My head lulling back to hang, I rambled, “You eejit.” I laughed at Lorenzo. “I hope this boat sinks, too.”

Tap. Tap. Went my chest.

I laughed some more. “Yup. My heart is alive… but not because of you.” I wanted to kick him, but my legs simply wouldn’t move. “That’s where leathered angel and I are best.” Just the mention of Lynx had a breeze of tobacco and leather drifting into my nose.

That was too much for my heart. I started to cry. “God, you are so cruel.”

Then my wrists fell from above me, and I crumbled into warm arms. My feet no longer touching the cold floor, I rolled into the chest that was panting, and told it, “What a wonderful way to die.” I didn’t even feel my wounded back.
