The angel with black wings began to grunt. “Rhea, the smart bastard is figuring out this hold.”

I looked down to see Thunder’s eyes blazing red, his skin hot to the touch. I got to stay where I was next to him, but the white-winged angel slid Diesel to a rough stop against the wall.

Rosa hissed in protest.

“Sorry. He was about to burn,” shrugged the angel.

Veins showing on his forehead, Diesel lay on his side, watching Rosa.

“Let him burn,” sneered Onus.

Not wanting him near me, I crawled over Thunder’s body and got close to his other side. I clung to his shirt, his chest, still not trusting what was happening.

Onus was on his knees, staring up at Rosa as if she was the only woman to ever exist. Despite this, he said, “I won’t forgive you for being with him.”

Thunder got enough control over his body to turn his head. “No,” he grated out from between lips that he couldn’t move.

I got closer to him. “Thunda’. What is it?” A tear slipped down his face, so I kissed his cheek. “I’m here.” Then I stayed so close to him that I could hear his breathing speed up.

As Rosa circled to get behind Onus, I saw that she was now crying. However, with immense pride, she lifted her chin. “My son, warrior, fight for them all.”

A knife suddenly appearing in her hand, like the gentle flower had.

Reaching around Onus’s neck, she placed the blade by his left ear.

He was panting now. “What are you doing?”

Strength. She was so strong.

“I’m loving you.”

Then, as he had done to Anita, she sliced his throat.

She exhaled… Then disappeared.

PRAYING FOR LIGHTNING

Thunder

2 weeks later

Staring into that cell where Onus lay dead, it took an angel, the Devil, Rya, and my father to hold me back when my mother vanished. Two of them with brute force, one with a loving heart, and the other with a broken one.

Even though it burned him, Diesel laid a hand on my chest. “She made a choice, son.”

I was spitting mad. “After all he’s done? How could she? I never got to say one word to her!”

My mother’s human body died birthing me, yet when having a chance to meet me, be with me on earth, she instead followed Onus to hell.

I didn’t speak to anyone, besides Rya, for two weeks. Diesel didn’t have any intel on the Furies’ new location, so I, selfishly, figured there was no point. I was in so much pain. I just couldn’t bring myself to forgive my mother, Onus, or anyone who agreed with her actions. I even refused Lu when he wanted to ‘talk.’

Fuck you, Lu.

Rya and I were placed in the house closest to Demi so the girls could get to know one another. They were ecstatic to be sisters. Sable now had two riders. And Moola had two girls to homeschool and look after. One very behind, the other almost done with high school.

At night, Rya would find me still in bed, beg me to eat, then pray.
